mash-up of four black and white photos

Memes That Matter: Conversations That Count is conceived as a social artwork that explores visual metaphors as a catalyst for meaningful conversations, for content beyond the politics of opinion, for creative responses. Our fortnightly meet-ups aim to create  a  field of collective enquiry in which imagination and intellect collaborate to make sense of the world.

Inspired by Joseph Beuys

Memes that Matter is inspired by Joseph Beuys’ idea of society as an artwork and its conceptual underpinnings, the transpolar politics known as social three-folding, conceived by Rudolf Steiner. It endeavours to promote the universally human stance in times of extreme polarisation and machine intelligence.

Each session will last an hour and explore a socially relevant topic through the lens of a particular meme. Each meet-up consists of:

  • Introduction to the meme

  • Conversation in small breakout groups

  • Sharing and closure

The sessions meet every second Tuesday, starting on 6th May 2025 and fortnightly after that.

The first meme is The Irony Of It All, exploring our ability to think outside the box our thoughts have been packaged in as a prerequisite for meaningful conversation

You can join at any time.

Register here for the online conversations (offered twice to cover various timezones) or subscribe to the blog to receive forthcoming posts, including the video-clips introducing the memes.

Hoping to see you soon, online or otherwise,

Horst
