A Day Seminar on Palliative Care, After Death Care and the Vigil
at the Christian Community, Hawthorn, VIC
Program
9am : Arrival and Registration 9.15am : Welcome and Opening
9.25 – 10.25am : “An Anthroposophical Palliative Care Approach”. Pippa will share her knowledge and experiences out of her work as an anthroposophical palliative care nurse and introduce us to the core principles and things we can do ourselves when caring for someone.
10.25 – 11.25am : “End of Life Legalities and Documents, Death Care and Funeral Practicalities” with Melinda.
11.25 – 11.45am : Morning tea break
11.45am-1pm : “Soul and Spirit Care at End of Life” with Cheryl, Pippa and Melinda. Supporting a dying person and their carers and community around them in body, soul and spirit. This is an interweaving of many things including nursing care, conversation, counselling, meditation, prayer, ritual and ceremony.
1 – 2pm : Lunch. Bring your own lunch.
2 – 3.15pm : “The Vigil- Death Care” The laying out of a person’s body in preparation for a vigil with Pippa.
3.15 – 4pm : Questions and Closing Thoughts.
4 – 4.15pm : Afternoon Tea
4.15pm – 5.15pm : Festival to Remember Those who have Died.
5.15pm : Finish/Departure

About the presenters
Pippa White has a Diploma of Nursing and a Diploma of Holistic Nursing (Anthroposophical Nursing). She has worked as a palliative nurse for 15 years, both in institutional and home based care and for 11 years as an anthroposophical nurse both in general nursing and palliative care. She has facilitated many parent workshops for home nursing care for children and on topics of death and dying.
Melinda Whyman is the Community Activator for the not-for-profit ‘Tender Funerals-Greater Eastern Melbourne’ initiative. She has previously worked as a holistic funeral director guiding individuals, families and communities through all aspects of the funeral care process.
Cheryl Nekvapil is a priest of The Christian Community working in Melbourne. Since 2016, she has worked with Pippa and Melinda in offering holistic care for body, soul and spirit for people in end-phase of life and in death care.
