SUMMARY:A Festival of Change - Social Threefolding
DESCRIPTION: \nFive Creative Days on Sustainable Social and Organisational Change\nSocial Threefolding is the recognition that three distinct social spheres operate in all human social organisations. Based on this understanding the coordination of the social life processes are not unitarian or centralised by state or leading elite. Instead\, these three self-directed\, relatively autonomous spheres vertically and horizontally balance and enhance each other: \n\ncultural-spiritual life empowers and upholds unassailable freedom\, individuality and creativity; \nsocial life supports\, sustains\, and promotes equal justice as its highest aspiration\, out of an understanding that we are all equal by virtue of our humanity;\neconomic life\, is balanced by reciprocal interactions between people and people\, and people and environment\, governed by solidarity with the endeavour to meet human needs and enable individuals to work out of their pre-birth intentions. With social threefolding/social sculpture we can build systems that reflect what it is to be truly human.\n\nWe use engaging presentations\, deep conversations\, and some unusual tools: Storytelling\, creative engagement\, and board games. \nWatch a video about social threefolding \nDates \n20-24 September 2023 \nVenue \nHarmony Centre\, Mittagong\, NSW \nCosts \nDownload the flyer for more information about the fees for this event or contact Iris Curteis  \nBookings \nBook here \nPlease remember to book your accommodation separately. \nPresenters \nIrmhild Kleinhenz – Functional Threefoldness within the Human Body\nHamish Mackay – Economy Life\nGillian Rogers – Social Rights Life\nIris Curteis – Spiritual Cultural Life \n  \nWhere the realm of freedom of thought and action begin\, \nthe determination of individuals according to generic laws ends.

SUMMARY:What is a lived experience? A deep dive into phenomenology
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Stream of Life Research Studio presents \nA webinar on the activity of experiencing\nas central to phenomenological practice\n  \nWhat does it really mean ‘to experience’ something? To ‘have an experience’? And is it different from a ‘lived experience’? We hear this phrase often these days\, but is ‘an experience’ different to ‘a lived one’? How important is it to a fulfilled life to be able to live deeply into our experiences\, as we are living them? \nLet’s clarify!  \nPhenomenology has been described as the study of the lived experience\, as it is lived. In this webinar\, we will take a deep dive into the nature of experiencing in the context of phenomenological practice. We will share different ways for learning to ‘capture ourselves in the act’ of experiencing and for recollecting such experiences afterwards so that they both enrich our quality of life and our professional practice. Our study theme will be the work of Arthur Zajonc on meditation and phenomenology. \nThis webinar is the fifth in our series\, What is phenomenology? \nJoin us again! or join us for the first time. All welcome! \nCost\n$20 donation or whatever you can afford to support us.\nA reading from Arthur Zajonc’s work will be sent after booking.  \nBookings\nBook here! \nHow to join the webinar \nParticipants will be sent the Zoom link by email two (2) days beforehand\, and then again one (1) hour beforehand. Please login for the webinar via your Zoom app and not via Eventbrite. \nFor more information\nPlease contact Fiona Campbell  \n  \nAbout the Stream of Life Research Studio \nThe focus of the studio is the study and understanding of the dynamic activity of the etheric or life forces in cosmos\, nature and human being. We see phenomenology as central to this study. \nDifferent members have different areas of expertise – spirituality\, creativity\, cognition\, medical/therapeutic – but all are working out of Anthroposophy and use phenomenology as their primary research methodology\, in an approach that stretches beyond the world of natural science into the arts\, humanities and human sciences. \nFounding Members \n\nDr Fiona Campbell is a researcher\, lecturer\, visual artist and arts educator. She has an ongoing project called Where Do New Ideas Come From? which investigates and promotes dynamic\, enlivened thinking practices\, offers arts-based seminars and workshops and lectures on consciousness studies. You can read more about her work here.\n\n\nDr Jude Samson\, whose life quest is knowing how the world works\, explores how the spiritual and physical work in union with each other\, and provides opportunities for people to share in his knowledge and guidance. SUMMARY:What is veil painting? Exploring the four elements through gesture
DESCRIPTION:  \nWith artist Fiona Campbell \nThis online workshop uses the four elements – warmth\, air\, water\, earth – to build on the foundations of the wet-on-dry watercolour technique\, introduced last April in What is veil painting? And why do we do it? \nThe workshop teaches classic veiling; participants will create an artwork with a nature theme with guidance from the presenter. The workshop will be recorded and available for three months.  \nWhy we use this technique? \nThe workshop demonstrates the classic veiling technique\, as used in therapy and meditative practices. We use the theme of the four elements to explore how different brush strokes embody different activities and moods\, and the effects this has on both painting and painting.   \nEach element has a different gesture that characterises the phenomenal world of Nature. These gestures provide variations in veiling approaches that go beyond being mere ‘outer’ techniques and point to how we must learn to paint out of our inner soul life rather than out of ‘special effects’.  \nThe workshop also explores the fundamentals of the anthroposophic approach to painting.  \nWho is it for? \nFor anyone interested in learning more about this unique watercolour approach to enlivening colour.  \nFor anyone interested in the anthroposophic approach to art\, colour and painting.  \nWhen  \nSaturday 30 September\, 2023 at 2.00pm AEST \nCost \n$65 includes video recording  \nHow to register  \nBook here \nHow to join the workshop\nThe Zoom link and a list of materials will be sent to you after you register. \nFor more information \nPlease contact Fiona Campbell  \n  \nAbout the presenter \nFiona Campbell PhD is a visual artist\, researcher\, lecturer and arts educator. She does interdisciplinary research on phenomenology\, creativity and cognition and has been a professional artist and arts educator for more than 30 years.  \nFiona provides a wealth of professional and teaching practice with this specialist watercolour approach\, including 35 years as a professional artist\, 10 years art therapy practice and 12 years as a lazure/mural artist.  \nFiona has been involved with Anthroposophy for over 40 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience about the core principles and practice of Steiner’s work to her classes. She draws on Rudolf Steiner’s Colour lectures\, his ‘portfolio’ of training sketches for artists and his numerous references to the role of art and the task of the modern artist.  \nYou can find out more about Fiona here or listen to an 2021 ABC Soul Search interview with her about the anthroposophical approach to art. \n  \n“The basis of artistic creation is not what is\, \nbut what might be; not the real\, but the possible. \nRudolf Steiner\, in The Aesthetics of Goethe’s Worldview \n  \nPhoto credit: Trees in Sunny Air\, © Fiona Campbell

SUMMARY:Finding new eyes for the world\, seeking new ways of knowing
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Stream of Life Research Studio presents \nA 2nd webinar on the activity of experiencing\nas central to phenomenological practice\n  \nHow do I see with ‘new eyes’?  How do I overcome my existing preconceptions and put aside my existing knowledge when encountering the world? “Every way of knowing becomes a way of living” says Parker Palmer. Every new perception or new insight becomes part of our way of engaging with the world. Thus is a process of transformation enacted through learning to see with new eyes\, hear with new ears. \nThis practice-based webinar is the 6th in our ongoing study of the nature and practice of phenomenology. Following on from the last webinar\, we continue to closely examine the act of experiencing itself. We will also work with the afterimage of an experience and how this strengthens our capacity for seeing with new eyes.  \nThere will also be a short case study from a guest speaker\, tba \n  \nInterested to find out more? Join us and share in the conversation. \nThis webinar is the 6th in our series\, What is phenomenology? \nJoin us again! or join us for the first time. SUMMARY:After the afterimage: what comes next?
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Stream of Life Research Studio presents \nA 3rd webinar on the activity of experiencing\nWorking further with Zajonc’s cognitive breathing exercise. \n  \nOur exploration of the lived experience has been a process of learning how to immerse ourselves more deeply in our experiencing. Now we are working with the afterimage of the experience – but what happens when we let go of afterimage? Does this lead us closer to becoming the Other or is it a distraction? \nOur 7th and final webinar for the year continues working with Zajonc’s cognitive breathing exercise and where that takes us with the phenomenological process. We will then recap what we have learned from this process with contributions from our regular participants.  \nPreparatory reading: Creatures that don’t conform \n  \n  \nInterested to find out more? Join us and share in the conversation. \nThis webinar is the 7th in our series\, What is phenomenology? \nJoin us again! or join us for the first time. All welcome! \n  \nCost\n$20 donation or whatever you can afford to support our administration and recording costs.  \n \nBookings\nBook here! SUMMARY:Breathing through the Night
DESCRIPTION: \nA Soul-building Art Intensive\nWith artist Fiona Campbell\nThis therapeutic painting intensive brings the health-giving forces of the harmonious breath into our souls and bodies through painting through the cycle of the night. \nWe breathe in colour and then breathe out its complementary in a transforming process that enlivens both our life body and our soul. In this way\, we bring our innermost being into connection with the world and nature\, moving gently between the two in harmonious rhythm. \nWhat will we do? \nBased on a classic exercise called Painting as an Exercise for Breathing from the Hauschka therapy school\, we will paint the cycle of light and darkness from sunset to sunrise using colour\, accompanied by poetry. On Saturday\, we use wet-on-wet painting\, then prepare a stretched board for veiling the final stage\, the sunrise\, on Sunday morning. \nThis workshop is an immersive experience designed to work deeply into our fourfold being. \nWho is it for? \nAnyone in need of soul nourishment as we approach the end of another (for many) difficult year. The exercise supports our mental health and physical well-being by harmonising the breath\, easing our tensions and bringing our polarities into balance. You do not need to be an experienced painter to benefit from this workshop.   \nWhen \n 10.00am – 12.30 pm\, then 1.30-4.00 pm\, 25 November\, 2023\n 10.00 am – 12 pm\, 26 November 2023 \nWhere: Armidale NSW \nPlease register as early as you can for this and we will advise you on the venue\, which will be determined by the number of participants…..one side of Armidale or the other\, depending! \nCost \nFull workshop: $225\nSaturday only: $165\nConcession:  $180 \nWhat to bring \nWe will supply paints\, paper\, boards\, water jars and brushes. If you have any brushes please bring them\, otherwise everything should be there for you. \nHow to register  \nHeather or phone/text 0408 020508 \nChris or phone/text 0431 459 109 \nPayment details\, and any further information will be sent on registration. \nPlease register by FRIDAY 10 NOVEMBER\, so we can book the appropriate venue and order your art supplies.  \n  \nAbout the Presenter \nFiona Campbell PhD is a visual artist\, muralist\, researcher\, lecturer and arts educator. SUMMARY:How do I find the Good? A course for young doctors
DESCRIPTION: \nYIAM Conference 2024\n100 years course for young doctors\nGoetheanum\, Switzerland \n  \nHow do I find the Good? How can we help our patients in their healing process? Our conference honouring the 100 year anniversary of the ‘Course for Young Doctors’ is inspired by these questions as guiding stars. In the lectures of the course there are exercises and meditations as a guide towards spiritual independence\, to learn how to see with the heart and perceive the wisdom of Nature and the Cosmos. We are called to unite the human being once again with this wisdom\, through an unshakeable Will to heal and the realisation of Karma. The content of our conference seeks to explore and develop these and other themes from this course. \nWe\, as an international group of young people in diverse fields of the anthroposophic healing arts\, have been preparing this conference for three years now\, and invite anyone who feels connected to or inspired by the impulse to join! In these Holy Nights between Christmas and Epiphany\, we hope to create space for experience\, encounter\, and inspiration\, so that we can find new strength and courage as we carry Anthroposophic medicine into the future. \nAlong with the rich in-person programme of lectures\, workshops\, and artistic performances\, there will also be an online conference to accompany our conference for those who cannot travel to the Goetheanum. The online conference has come into being as the in-person lectures will not be live-streamed or recorded. Please note that the online conference will be taking place in the middle of the European night\, so that those around the world who can not be present in person\, can attend during their day time. To stay informed about the online conference\, please sign up to our mailing list with the Medical Section here.  We want to do our best to make attendance possible for everyone so please get in touch if financial barriers are in the way.  Childcare is also something we are working on providing for the duration of the conference. \nThis is a hybrid event\, so Zoom participation is possible for those unable to visit Switzerland. \n  \nProgram \nDownload the full program \nFor more information \nFind out more about this exciting conference and how to register. \nTo stay informed about the online conference\, please sign up to our mailing list with the Medical Section here.

We are four creative arts practitioners (performers\, storytellers\, workshop facilitators\, poets\, and writers) who have a common background in Anthroposophy. We initially met over 20 years ago exploring Steiner’s Speech and Drama methods through workshops in Western Australia. By combining Steiner’s Speech and Drama indications\, eurythmy\, creative writing and biography work\, we devise performances and related workshops. A playful curiosity and phenomenological research approach has enabled us to craft and share two performance/workshop projects. \nDancing Backwards\, performed at the ASinA Perth Conference in 2018\, and the Adelaide Fringe in 2019; explored the impact of the planets as vowel qualities within our biographies; and 12 Portals\, A Life in 7 Year Cycles\, refined in Adelaide in 2022 with Dawn Langman\, and performed in Perth\, December 2022\, and due to be shared in Sydney and Mittagong\, January 2024. 12 Portals explores the impacts of the zodiac and consonants within life phases 0-84. \nWord Sisters each contributes unique artistic strengths and for over five years have met regularly on Zoom. As three members live in Perth and one in Yamba\, NSW\, we manage our schedules to work physically together\, usually in Perth\, to develop works through embodied processes. \n\n\nRead a review of their work \n  \nWord Sisters are: \nJenny Hill BA\, Dip Ed\, M Ed\, Dip Speech and Drama\, is a professional storyteller with extensive experience in performance\, education and community projects. Her present focus is in providing professional development in early childhood education. \nDale Irving BA\, Dip Ed\, B Ed\, M Ed\, PhD\, is a former public school drama teacher and arts’ educator\, who now works with biography consultation after training with Karl-Heinz Finke. SUMMARY:Art as a Spiritual Practice - and Why We Need This
DESCRIPTION:  \nWhat can art do for us? The Arts are well known as a activity for supporting our health and wellbeing by nourishing us with creativity\, music\, plays\, inspiring films and beautiful pictures. But practised in a structured\, disciplined yet imaginative way\, art\, any of the Arts\, can act as meditation does – as a schooling path of spiritual development. \nThis webinar discusses how essential it is for Anthroposophists to have some form of artistic practice to strengthen and order the soul life\, to ‘school it’\, so that we have the forces to meet the challenges coming to meet us out of the future – and how to go about this. \nThe webinar also acts as an introduction to the new v online training\, starting in March.  \nIn the act of creating\, spirituality and art meet \nRudolf Steiner intended the artistic to be central to the pursuit of spiritual investigation he named ‘Anthroposophy’\, just as he believed creativity to be central to what it means to be human. Yet access to the spiritual is not simply a given today. In our materialistic age\, the soul needs awakening to its inmost needs\, perhaps far more than we realise. The path to the spiritual needs to be actively cultivated with our whole being\, not just our head. The arts play a role here beyond the aesthetic. \nBecoming artistic is an inner need of Anthroposophy. Without it\, Anthroposophy cannot go into the future. If not imbued with the artistic impulse\, then Anthroposophy will go short of breath\, according to Steiner:  \n\nIn an inartistic atmosphere it goes short of breath; only in an artistic element can it breathe freely. Rightly understood\, it will lead over to the genuinely artistic without losing any of its cognitional character. \n\n  \nThis webinar also introduces the Art as a Path of Schooling for the Soul training. \nWhen \n7pm AEDT 15 February\, 2024 \nCost \nEntry by $20 donation \nHow to book \nBook Here! \n  \nFor more information \nContact Fiona Campbell for more information.  \n  \n  \n  \n\nThe spiritual world lives in the artistic\, as a “living\, colourful\, form-bearing weaving and being’ reality”\nTherefore\, working with the arts\, out of the arts\, must become central to our way of engaging with Anthroposophy. \n\n  \nFeature image: OIA\, courtesy of Fiona Campbell
