SUMMARY:Study Group_Inner Development for World Development Group
DESCRIPTION:Fortnightly Study Group\nContact: allisonartist@gmail.com \nInner Development for World Development Group\n“Inner Development for World Development Group.” We meet 5pm Tuesday fortnightly\nat Steiner House\nWHO YOU ARE:\n* You are aware of a deep longing within that has recently been awoken by the words of Rudolf Steiner. You have lots of questions and are beginning to fill yourself with some of the majestic imaginations of Anthroposophy\nor\n* You have attended public lectures and read a few books\nSteiner wrote. You may already have struggled with doing the exercises or meditations that Steiner recommends for healthy balanced esoteric growth but have not been able to maintain your practice or\n* You have realised that you stand in the world as a vessel for Anthroposophia and are interested in supporting others in the deeper work.\nINTENTIONS: You will choose your own exercises to work on. You will work at your own pace. Others may make suggestions or give you feedback -but the choice will be yours own and you will hold yourself accountable.\nWe will witness and support your commitment to yourself.\nSteadfastness stands higher than success\nRS: Knowledge of Higher Worlds\nTo encourage an imaginative consciousness within the group we will balance the inner work by engaging in artistic processes led by different people in the group.\nDuring school holidays we will meet 5-8pm where we can share our biographies – to help us become more aware of the divinity within each.\nYou will be encouraged to embark on spiritual research into your deepest heartfelt questions and share this journey with us.\n In the last few years of his life Steiner increasingly spoke of the necessity and great esoteric significance to learn to work in Spiritual Science based groups. Are you motivated to keep coming back when one of us annoys\, irritate or offends you; or when life gets demanding\, distracting or complicated?\n‘Life gets more luminous\nLife gets more arduous’ ……when you truly seek your destiny star. SUMMARY:Gary Lachman Lectures- Dark Star Rising
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 6th August\, starting at 7pm: Dark Star Rising. Did “positive thinking” and “mental science” help put Donald Trump in the White House? And are there other kinds of “occult politics” at work in the world today? In my book Dark Star Rising: Magick and Power in the Age of Trump\, I look at the strange magical and esoteric ideas that are informing postmodern politics in the United States and Russia in the twenty-first century. From New Thought to Chaos Magick to the far-right esotericism of Julius Evola and the Traditionalists\, a web of connections stretches out across the globe bringing together such disparate characters and phenomena as Norman Vincent Peale\, Ayn Rand\, Pepe the Frog\, the Alt-Right\, Vladimir Putin\, President Trump\, Reality TV\, “meme magick” and much else in a weird tangle of postmodern occultism in which reality is up for grabs\, facts give way to internet fictions\, and truth is a negotiable commodity. My talk will try to find a path through this post-truth alternative fact landscape in reality is what you can get away with.

SUMMARY:Gary Lachman Workshop weekend
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th August workshop\, starting at 9:30am each day: In search of our other mind through the lost knowledge of the Imagination and the Secret History of Consciousness. When we hear the word “imagination\,” what do we think? Mostly we tend to see the imagination as a substitute for reality\, as a form of wishful thinking\, a pleasant alternative to the hard facts of life. Or we see it as a means of developing novel ideas\, of being on the “cutting edge” of technology\, a way of making things “bigger and better.” But this is not the only way to understand the imagination. For poets and scholars like Kathleen Raine\, Henry Corbin\, Owen Barfield\, and others\, the imagination is not a substitute for reality\, but a way of grasping its essence. For them\, imagination isn’t a form of “make believe\,” but a faculty of cognition\, a way of knowing things that would otherwise remain unknown. This knowledge was accessible at an earlier time\, but in recent centuries it has been minimized\, if not vigorously rejected\, by our emphasis on “hard\,” scientific thinking. My talk will look at the imagination as a faculty for grasping the invisible realities that surround us and at the tradition of knowledge rooted in it – a knowledge that\, if lost\, can still be recovered. What is consciousness? For many philosophers\, scientists\, and neurophysiologists today it is “nothing but” a by-product of processes going on in the brain. As Francis Crick\, co-discoverer of the DNA molecule\, declared: “You\, your joys and sorrows\, your memories and ambitions\, your sense of personal identity and free will\, are no more than the behaviour of a vast assembly of nerve cells and molecules.” Yet while this highly reductive view of consciousness dominates mainstream discussion\, there has always been a counter tradition that sees consciousness not as a negligible epiphenomenon of neurons and synapses\, but as the very foundation of existence. There has been what we can call “a secret history of consciousness\,” a much more meaningful view of our inner world to which many important thinkers have contributed. My talk will look at some of these figures and at how their ideas can influence our world today.

SUMMARY:Gary Lachman Lectures-Hypnagogia and Precognitive Dreams
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 13th August\, starting at 7pm: Hypnagogia and Precognitive Dreams. Twice a day each of us enters a strange altered state of consciousness\, that is like a dream but is in many ways different. This is the state hovering in between wakefulness and sleep called hypnagogia. Hypnagogic visions have inspired great artists\, poets\, and philosophers and for some they have been the gateway into other worlds and weird inner dimensions. From C. G. Jung to the Surrealists\, hypnagogia has proved a fertile means of exploring the unconscious while wide awake\, of dreaming with our eyes open. My tal with introduce this little known but universally human experience\, its history and what it means for us today\, and will include some of my own experiences with hypnagogia and the equally fascinating phenomenon of precognitive dreams\, when the sleeping mind steps out of time and affords us a glimpse of the future.

SUMMARY:Research as a path of professional and spiritual development
DESCRIPTION:‘Research as a path of professional and spiritual development’ – a talk with Fiona Campbell \nAnthroposophy in action \nRudolf Steiner was first and foremost a researcher who saw any limits to knowledge as a challenge for inner growth. But he frequently urged his listeners to conduct their own research\, not just follow his. One of the tasks of the School of Spiritual Science is research within the different professions but you don’t have to belong to the School to do research. So if I want to research my professional or personal practice\, how do I go about it? Are my experiences valid? And what actually is research? \nIn this presentation\, Fiona Campbell discusses the increasingly critical need for research in the Anthroposophical movement and how to go about it. \nBut first\, the path to becoming a spiritual investigator begins with understanding what is means to be a researcher. Dr. Fiona Campbell has been teaching interdisciplinary research skills and researcher development for 10 years and anthroposophical studies for 25 years. She specialises in learning and teaching development\, drawing on her visual arts training\, social science degrees and adult education expertise.

SUMMARY:The karma behind the Anthroposophical community's failure to realise a threefold society
DESCRIPTION:‘The karma behind the Anthroposophical community’s failure to realise a threefold society’ \nA talk by Gavin Tang \nAccording to Rudolf Steiner himself\, it was his specific spiritual task to bring the knowledge of karma and reincarnation to the world. All other major spiritual undertakings of his were things he picked up because others (other initiates) had failed to do so. Among such undertakings was the establishment of a threefold society. In fact the nature of this task is more suited to a Platonist/Arthurian stream than the Aristotlean/Grail stream that Steiner was part of. What is it in the Platonist approach that makes it more suited to bring a threefold society to realisation?

SUMMARY:Research as a path of professional and spiritual development
DESCRIPTION:Research as a path of professional and spiritual development – Anthroposophy in action \nA talk with Fiona Campbell starting at 7pm at Rudolf Steiner House. \nRudolf Steiner was first and foremost a researcher who saw any limits to knowledge as a challenge for inner growth. But first\, the path to becoming a spiritual investigator begins with understanding what is means to be a researcher. Dr. Fiona Campbell has been teaching interdisciplinary research skills and researcher development for 10 years and anthroposophical studies for 25 years. She specialises in learning and teaching development\, drawing on her visual arts training\, social science degrees and adult education expertise.
