SUMMARY:The Representative of Humanity online
DESCRIPTION: \nExploring Rudolf Steiner’s Sculptural Group \nA series of ongoing zoom seminars hosted by Rudolf Steiner House\, London \n  \n  \nAll welcome\, no need to book\, no charge! \nDate/Time for early birds in Australia \nTime: 7.00pm-8.30pm (UK time)/6.00am-7.30am (AEDT)\nDates: 22 January\, 5/19 February\, 5/12/19 March\, 2 April Australian time \n  \nProgram \n21 January: Introducing Rudolf  Steiner’s Sculptural Group with Howard Smith \nIn his last years\, Rudolf Steiner worked intensively on the wooden statue usually known as “The Representative of Mankind”. This work of art encapsulates the essence of earth evolution and the mission of Christ\, keeping the balance between the adversarial forces. This illustrated talk will look at some of the main details in the work\, and it’s message to us today. \nHoward is a life-long student of Anthroposophy. He has a PhD in Chemistry and worked as a researcher into the properties of water and as a science teacher. He founded the Science Group of the Anthroposophical Society in Great Britain and now works as a piano technical specialist.   \n4 February: Dynamic Relationships in the Representative of Humanity with Angus Jenkinson \nSteiner’s extraordinary statue seems to capture perhaps the most essential dynamics in the drama of a human life. Can we perceive these? What do we see? What do these dynamic relationships mean? Does it illuminate the Earth and its people? And in our own body\, soul\, and spirit? Do these dynamics reveal secrets such as those of evil\, failure\, and loving victory? Angus will enquire how this majestic artwork reveals dynamics of our souls and how our souls may help us understand the statue in a deeper way. Might this be life changing? \nAngus Jenkinson is a transdisciplinary research fellow and class holder who also works with organisational purpose. He is the author of 4 books\, including From Stress to Serenity: Gaining Strength in the Trials of Life and as co-author of Liquidity on the ecology of money. He is writing a book on Ecologic. \n18 February: The Christ with Peter Van Breda \nThe central figure of the sculpture\, known as the representative of humanity\, represents the Christ. He stands\, in characteristic gesture\, beside and beneath the forces that take us ‘out of ourselves’ and beside and above the forces that would harden\, drag us down and bind us to the earth. What can we learn of the Christ by contemplating this figure ? \nPeter Van Breda lives in London and is a priest of The Christian Community\, a movement for religious renewal.  \n4 March: Exploring Inner Balance with Caroline Chanter \nGerard Wagner worked with the Representative of Humanity as an image of balance applicable to polarities in the human being\, in general life\, and in art. Polarities between the ‘opposing forces’\, represented by Lucifer and Ahriman\, exist also in the colours. Because of this\, painting can consciously become a balancing act between the ‘luciferic’ and ‘ahrimanic’\, which in turn unites the heart of the painter with the feeling of inner balance that has arisen through the uniting of polarities. Could this be an approach to a new Christian Art? \nCaroline Chanter is a painter and art therapist. She teaches at the ‘Rudolf Steiner Painting School’ in Dornach and at ‘Swaasthyakala Niketan’\, a painting therapy school in Bangalore\, India. She has written two books about Gerard Wagner the latest an extensive biography A Life with Colour (Rudolf Steiner Press 2021). \n 11 March: The Representative of Humanity and the Revelation of the New Mysteries\, a conversation with Marguerite Miller \nWith a focus on the role of the Representative of Humanity\, Marguerite will offer an introduction to Rudolf Steiner’s preparation of humanity for the reappearance of Christ in the etheric.  In an open conversation to follow\, we will seek to create a shared imagination of our own role in freely manifesting the future within the stream of the New Mysteries. \nMarguerite Miller is a translator who lives in the American Midwest.  During her decades of engagement with spiritual science she has pursued her interest in the history of the Mysteries and the history and gestures of Rudolf Steiner’s teaching. \n 18 March: What is asked of the human being in our time? with Deborah Ravetz \nSchiller said: ‘Live with your century\, but do not be its creature. Work for your contemporaries; but create what they need\, not what they praise.’ To be a contemporary means to be aware of what is happening in the present and to bring new impulses for the future. This talk will use story\, art and literature to suggest a way in which we can acknowledge the past\, be part of understanding our present and respond to the challenge of finding creative ideas for humanity now. \nDeborah Ravetz trained as a painter and Social Sculpture practitioner. She lectures and writes on the evolution of consciousness through art history\, literature and biography. The focus of her interest is the quest for authentic selfhood\, the possibility of community\, freedom and service. \n1 April: The Role of Resistance – The Adversaries\, servants of God or enemies of Man? with Geoffrey Norris \nWhat is evil and how do we face it ?  We maybe recognise those beings portrayed in the sculpture\, Lucifer and Ahriman\, as enemies to be fought with and overcome. Or can we relate to them as servants of God who have actually been sent to help us ? As we see the portrayal of these beings sited together at the right hand side of the representative of humanity how do we relate to them ? Could they be serving us AND tempting us ? Then when we go on to contemplate them ‘fallen’ and ‘bound’ as they appear in the statue   how do they enter our consciousness ? \nGeoffrey Norris is a speech artist and teacher\, actor and director who gives regular speech classes and seminars.      \n  \nCost \nVoluntary donations towards costs and overheads are gratefully received and can be made by transfer to a Nationwide account held for this purpose.  \nAccount name: Adrian Hotten\, sort code: 07-01-16 account number: 31466776 \nHow to join  \nZoom link \nMeeting ID: 826 3212 9836\, \nPasscode: 755359\nFind your local number: https://us02web.zoom.us/u/kw5KhlMVS \nFor more information \nPlease contact Sue Peat for more information about the series\nContact Brendon McQuillan  join the London e-mailing list\nBrowse the Rudolf Steiner House London What’s On for more events  \n  \nFeatured image: Representative of Humanity (detail) by Rudolf Steiner and Edith Maryon\, 1924\, courtesy of AnthroWiki \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:28 Days of Insights\, Art and Encounter
DESCRIPTION:  \n‘28 Days of Insights\, Art and Encounter’\, the online study programme offered by the Goetheanum\, creates a space for finding inner strength and for keeping one‘s thinking flexible by sharing contents and artistic activities with others. \n“In times of change or restlessness the need for orientation grows. Focusing on a particular thought of one‘s own choice can be a source of strength in that situation\,” says Edda Nehmiz\, the Goetheanum Studies coordinator. Not just accepting a given thought but approaching it from different angles\, experiencing it as flexible yet not arbitrary – is what the Goetheanum Studies programme is aiming to achieve. \nThis international study programme offers study work and colloquia at a fixed time for 75 minutes per day online and 20 minutes daily\, each of eurythmy\, art and short contributions via video. Study work in German/English/Spanish/Portuguese and French. The language of communication in the colloquia is English. \nProgram \nThis international study programme is being offered three times a year. \nNext online courses (plenum in English) \n1 31 January to 27 February 2022\, 12 noon CET/10 pm AEDT\n2 4 September to 1 October 2022\, 9 am CET \nApply here! \nApply here \nFor more information \nFor more detailed information about this course\, check here or other online courses\, check here. \n

SUMMARY:Working with Steiner’s epoch motifs as a schooling for the ordering of the soul-life
DESCRIPTION: \nThey ‘lead us to confront the greatest of riddles – that  of human destiny’ \nA series of 7 experiential webinars + weekend studio\n  \nImmerse yourself in this unique journey through our soul/spiritual development! From our primeval beginnings\, through Lemuria and Atlantis to today and into the 6th Slavic epoch\, we can capture something of the ‘quiver’ of recollections of spiritual history lying deep in our soul-life through working actively with these motifs. \n  \nWhat is it about? \nThis practice-based course explores Steiner’s Goetheanum ceiling sketches\, a sequence given to the painters as a picture progression of the spiritual history of humanity. He described them as a training in karmic vision that could potentially awaken a perception of karma. We will work with selected motifs through lecture\, study\, contemplative observation and drawing.  \nBackground notes \nRudolf Steiner created a substantial portfolio of drawings\, pastel sketches and paintings for the renewal of the visual arts\, many destined for the interior of the First Goetheanum\, with the purpose of helping us find a new relationship to art as a basis of spiritual awakening. The artforms in the first Goetheanum were intended to support a training in karmic vision through Art. \nArt works upon the human soul to awaken in it a feeling\, a deep feeling\, for the spiritual realities of what is portrayed. By actively working with these motifs\, we can approach an inner experience of their truths. Not only through the content but through the inward experience of them. By working actively with their forms and processes\, we can learn to transform the soul body so that it can prepare itself for karmic awakening. \nFor the ceiling of the first Goetheanum\, Steiner gave a series of ‘epoch’ motifs to the artists – 12 sketches for the large cupola of the first Goetheanum and 7 Sketches for the small cupola\, culminating in the motif of the Representative of Humanity. We will explore these motifs: their gestures\, meanings and role in our soul/spiritual evolution.  \nProgram  \n7 x 1.5hr webinars approx. twice a month on Saturday afternoons\, 4.00-5.30pm. \n12/2 Workshop 1: The Elohim motif from the Creation trio – completed\n26/2 Workshop 2:  Lemuria and Atlantis\n19/3 Workshop 3:  Ancient India – Ancient Greece\n2/4 Workshop 4:  The IAO motif: the Cosmic Word\n23/4 Workshop 5:  Faust and his Genius\n7/5 Workshop 6:  The Germanic and Slavic motifs\n21/5 Workshop 7: Lucifer\, Ahriman and the Representative of Humanity \nEach session includes a short lecture\, experiential artwork\, contemplation and discussion as the foundation of a schooling for the ordering of our soul life. The series culminates in an optional weekend studio where participants can turn their sketches and studies into artforms that reflect their personal relationship to the evolution of consciousness. \nEach session will be recorded and will be available for registrants. \nArt material list and background reading suggestions emailed at registration. \nWho is it for? \nFor students of Anthroposophy\, Steiner teachers\, artists and anyone interested in understanding Steiner’s approach to the spiritual evolution of humanity. \nBeginners in drawing are welcome. You do not need technical skills in the visual arts to find these workshops fruitful. These experiential workshops employ the anthroposophic approach to colour and process but the focus is on experiencing\, not learning drawing techniques. \nWhat dates are the workshops? \nSaturday afternoons 4.00-5.30pm AEDT (until it ends\, then AEST)\nWebinar workshops: 12/26 February | 19 March | 2/23 April | 7/21 May\nWeekend studio workshop: 3-5 June 2022 \nMissed most of the  webinars but want to join individual sessions? \nYou can still join us and catch up via the video recordings. Just contact Fiona Campbell \nHow much does it cost?  \nOnline series:  | $200 for full 7 webinars | $33 per individual workshop. \nWeekend studio: Linuwel School\, Maitland NSW\, 3-5 June \nWhat’s included in the price?  \nA video of each webinar\, list of suggested readings and a curated selection of copies of the motifs for private study only.  \nWhere do I register? \nAfter registration\, participants will be sent the Zoom workshop link and a list of suggested readings and materials.  The Zoom link will be sent again one (1) hour before the webinar. \nRegister here! \nPlease login for each session via your Zoom app and not via Eventbrite. \nFor more information \nPlease contact Fiona Campbell and share this flyer with others who might be interested. Thank you! \n  \nAbout Fiona Campbell  \nFiona Campbell is a researcher\, lecturer\, visual artist and arts educator. She has an interdisciplinary PhD on creativity and cognition. \nIn this course Fiona is presenting one of her special interests\, the nature of human consciousness\, a topic she has lectured on for 25 years. Her artistic research on the Goetheanum motifs complements this interest.  \nFiona is also a member of the Stream of Life Research Studio\, where she focuses on her other two specialisations\, phenomenology and creative cognition. \nYou can find out more about Fiona on her website\, read about her teaching work at Sydney Rudolf Steiner College (where she has taught since 1994) or listen to a recent ABC Soul Search interview with her about the anthroposophical approach to art. \nFiona is concurrently offering Working with The Nine Trainings Sketches for the Painters\, a masterclass online studio for painters interested in working more deeply with Rudolf Steiner’s training sketches.  \n  \n  \n  \n‘In the Goetheanum were forms that would awaken a perception of karma’ (April 27\, 1924)  \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Steiner’s Persian Epoch Motif\, large cupola\, Goetheanum\n \n \n \n \n \n Steiner’s Egyptian Epoch Motif\, large cupola\, Goetheanum\n \n \n \n \n \n Steiner’s Slavic Human Being\, small cupola\, First Goetheanum\n \n \n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Inner Transformation through Art: Geometric Drawing
DESCRIPTION:Online class with artist and author Van James\n  \nGeometry \n\n\n\n\nThis course will trace the development of Geometric Drawing through the Steiner-Waldorf school curriculum from the early grades with freehand geometry\, as practiced in Form Drawing\, to the middle school use of instrument-aided constructions. We will touch Geometric Drawing’s relationship to Perspective Drawing and how both prepare for Projective Geometry in high school. We will proceed slowly in order to see how Geometric Drawing is a balancing activity that engages thinking\, feeling and volition\, focusing these soul forces and centring one’s being.  \n\nThis course is specifically directed towards Steiner school teachers and teaching specialists\, lower and upper school. \nFor more information \nClick here to register or contact Van James \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Save the date! Envisioning the Future\, Youth Section online 16 July
DESCRIPTION: \nComing together in the spirit of our common work\n16 July 2022 online | 21-25 June 2023 at the Goetheanum \n \nGreetings from the Youth Section at the Goetheanum!\n \nWe are reaching out to you today to invite you to save the date for two special gatherings.\n\nIn preparation for this call\, we would like to ask for your help in shaping the content by sending us any questions relating to the Youth Section’s work that are currently living in your local groups.\n \n\nEnvisioning the Future |  Youth Section Worldwide Call  \nThe first meeting is an online call via Zoom on Saturday 16th of July 2022 from 15:00 – 17:00 CEST. At this meeting\, Constanza Kaliks and Nathaniel Williams together with the Youth Section at the Goetheanum’s team would like to share with you their vision for the Section’s leadership transition period. We hope this will be the first of many moments in which we begin envisioning with you all the foundations of the new period of work that will start in Spring 2023\, when Nathaniel Williams will overtake the leadership of our Section.\n \nSome of the questions we would like to touch upon are:\n\nWhat is the purpose and task of the Youth Section in the context of the Anthroposophical Movement and our present times?\n \nHow can we develop an understanding for our foundations\, which in 2024 will become 100 years old.\n \nAnd how can these inform our future steps? How is the relationship of the Youth Section to the rest of the movement\, for example the School of Spiritual Science and the other Sections\, the General Anthroposophical Society and the local Societies?\n\nAdditionally\, we will also welcome the recently founded Youth Section in Oceania to our Worldwide Network!\n\n\n \nYouth Section Co-Workers Gathering |  June 2023 at the Goetheanum\n\nThe second save the date we would like to share with you is for a Youth Section Co-Workers Gathering at the Goetheanum from 21-25th June 2023. This gathering will be an opportunity for delegates of each local Youth Section to come to the Goetheanum and work with one another for an intensive week. It would be wonderful if you could already save the date and let us know if you would like to attend this and help shape the program. This event is organised in the spirit of out 2019 meeting “Building Bridges Beyond Borders”.\n \nWe hope you are as excited as we are to come together again\, first online and then in person in a year’s time! Please let us know if you will be there.\n  \nWith our best thoughts from the Goetheanum\,\n \nAndrea de la Cruz\, Gaia Termopoli\, Ioana Viscrianu\, Jacinta Gorchs and \nJohannes Kronenberg with Constanza Kaliks\n\n\nYouth Section at the Goetheanum

The other is the cliché that has connected itself with it. The words Goethe really spoke are perhaps far more apt than the mere phrase “More light”. The state of things at the end of the nineteenth century does indeed arouse the feeling that our predecessors have closed the shutters. Then came the younger generation; they felt cramped; they felt that the shutters which the older generation had closed so tightly must be opened. Yes\, my dear friends\, I assure you that although I am old\, I shall tell you more of how we can now attempt to open the shutters again.’ \nRudolf Steiner\, GA 217\, THE YOUNGER GENERATION – Lecture 1 – Dornach\, 3 October 1922

SUMMARY:Working with Steiner's Seven School Sketches - further training for the artist
DESCRIPTION: \nA masterclass studio with artist Fiona Campbell\nThe Seven School (or Friedwart) Sketches motifs were given to the teachers as part of Rudolf Steiner’s new impulse for understanding both Art and Nature\, to help students explore objective spiritual laws\, where form arises out of colour\, not the reverse. The series moves from nature moods through the four elements to culminate in a Madonna and Child motif.  \n  \nWhat are the Training Sketches? \nTheses sketches are part of a comprehensive portfolio known as the Training Sketches for the Artists. The Nine Training Sketches (Nature Moods) and the Goetheanum epochs motifs form a substantial part of this portfolio. \nBut these sketches are not images of external natural events; they refer to acts that are effective in nature and human\, says Christiane Haid\, head of the Visual Arts Section and the Section for the Literary Arts and Humanities at the Goetheanum. She believes dealing with the creative forces can become the starting point for facing tasks in healing the world.  \nYou are invited to join artist and researcher Fiona Campbell for an online masterclass (seven sessions) as she works with these motifs as culmination of a year-long project to bring Steiner’s sketches and motifs to celebrate the centenary of Steiner’s gift to visual artists of the comprehensive portfolio known as the Training Sketches for the Artists. \nYou don’t have to be a professional artist\, or even very experienced\, to enjoy this course.  \nA training for the configuration of the soul \nThey are called training sketches\, but sometimes people wonder what it is they are training. They are not guides to technique\, nor are they supposed to be copied literally. They are not answers to what artworks of sunrises and trees and people should look like. Rather\, they are a training for the soul. What does this mean? \nThrough working with each sketch\, the painted is lead towards an inward experience of the motif. This opens up the way to true moral and spiritual experiences. By learning to unite herself with the inner essence of these motifs\, the artist can reveal through her work traces of her soul experience of the cosmos. \nHistorical background \nIn June 2022 it will have been one hundred years since the painter and sculptor Henny Geck asked Rudolf Steiner for a course that would bring about a renewal of the art of paining. Steiner gave a series of motifs to the artists in the form of rough sketches\, as a foundation for the renewal of the art of painting. the foundational program for painters seeking to work out of Anthroposophy. This program is comparable to the indications he gave to the eurythmists and has been practiced in different forms in anthroposophic art trainings since Steiner first gave the Nine Training Sketches to artist Henni Geck 100 years ago. \nThese masterclasses are part of a worldwide movement this year to celebrate Steiner’s  artistic impulse\, including the Goetheanum motifs\, on the centenary of the burning down of the First Goetheanum. They are also offering lectures and courses to help realise Rudolf Steiner’s vision of a new impulse in the arts and make these motifs visible to the wider public.  \nWho are the masterclasses for? \nFor artists\, Steiner teachers\, art therapists and art students looking to find a path in soul/spiritual development through the arts; and for anyone interested in understanding more about Rudolf Steiner’s impulse in Art. \nTo get the most out of this course\, it is anticipated that participants work alongside Fiona in-class and on their own between sessions.  \nRequired \n\nfamiliarity with Steiner’s or Goethe’s colour theories\nbasic watercolour wet-on-dry skills (you can use wet-on-wet or any other painting media\, such as oils or acrylics\, if you prefer but technical advice is not directed towards these media) \n\nThis is not a step-by-step instructional class so not suitable for beginners. \nWhat dates are the classes? \n2-4pm AEDT Friday afternoons \n2/16/30 September\, 14/28 October\, 11/25 November. \nSession 1: Sunrise\nSession 2:  Sunset\nSession 3:  Trees in Sunny Air\nSession 4:  Trees in Storm\nSession 5:  Sunlit Tree by a Waterfall\nSession 6:  Head Study\nSession 7: Madonna and Child \nHow much does it cost? \nOnline series: $250 for 7×2 hr masterclasses or $42 for individual sessions. \nWhere do I register? \nRegister here! \nPlease register online. If you are a new participant please also complete the enrolment form. \nYou  can download the enrolment form here (payment details and a list of suggested materials and readings included). The Zoom link will sent to you a few days before class. \nEdited versions of the masterclasses are recorded but live participation is preferred\, unless your time zone makes this impossible. \nFor more information \nFor more information about the masterclass or for any questions\, please contact Fiona Campbell \n You may also like to share this flyer with others. \n \n  \nAbout Fiona Campbell and her work \n\nhttps://www.anthroposophyau.org.au/wp-content/uploads/CampbellSunMoonTreesVideoV6.mp4\n  \nFiona Campbell is a visual artist\, researcher\, lecturer and arts educator. SUMMARY:Facing Our Shadow Self in the 6th Epoch
DESCRIPTION: \n| The Slavic Motif and Our Shadow Self | \nThe 2nd of 3 practice-based webinars exploring the tragedy of dualism \nin the  5th epoch\, 6th epoch and our cosmic future\nas represented in the ceiling motifs of the first Goetheanum \n  \n‘I must not ever leave you. \nYou will in future often find me at your side; \nI shall not go from you until you find \nthe power of that which you are to become.’ \n(The Soul’s Probation\, Scene 5) \n  \n  \nPresenter: Fiona Campbell  \nOur shadow self is usually seen as being our disowned self\, those aspects of our selves we don’t or won’t accept. This shadow is also a development of our innate dualistic nature. So\, how can we grapple with this? In the motifs that filled the ceiling of the first Goetheanum\, we find some answers. \nThis is the 2nd webinar in the The Great Luciferic/Ahrimanic face-off . But you don’t have to have attended previous webinars to enjoy the presentation and discussion.  \n  \nTell me more … \nWe use the motif (pictured above) representing the 6th epoch\, still far in our future\, to understand the nature of our double or shadow as a picture of dualism in our souls. \n\nWhat really is this shadow? \nHow will we experience it? \nDo all beings have a shadow\, even angels? \nAnd how does this affect our future evolution and spiritual development? \n\nWe explore these questions through study\, discussion\, contemplation and a little sketching of the motif.  \n\n  \nWho are the webinars for? \nFor anyone interested in Steiner’s approach to the spiritual evolution of humanity. \nYou do not need to have attended any previous webinars in this series nor do you need drawing skills to enjoy these workshops: the focus is on the experiencing the content through doing\, not learning drawing techniques.  \nWhen are they on? \nSaturday afternoon 4.00-5.30pm AEST\nWebinar workshops: 22 October | 26 November \nEach session will be recorded and a video of the event will be available post-webinar.\nA list of suggested drawing materials and background readings is also included in the cost.  \nHow much does it cost?  \nOnline series:  | $60 for 2 webinars | $35 per webinar | Concessions available on request – please contact Fiona.\nVideo recording included in the cost \nWhere do I book?  \nBook here! \nAfter booking\, I will send you a confirmation email containing the zoom link to join the meeting.  \nThen download the payment details\, materials list and suggested readings. \nFor more information \nPlease contact Fiona Campbell  \n\n  \nBackground notes \nWhat exactly is dualism?   \nThe term ‘dualism’ has various characterisations in different cultures and time periods. But in general\, it means there are two fundamental kinds or categories of things or principles. In theology\, for example\, a dualistic principle is Good and Evil or God and the Devil as independent yet equal forces in the world. Light and Darkness is another example of dualism common to most cultures. \nAccording to Rudolf Steiner\, dualism in our human evolution is expressed through two opposing yet interdependent entities called Lucifer and Ahriman. Both these names can be found in the Bible and in Zoroastrianism as mighty beings\, like fallen angels. But today they are experienced in our soul life as polar-opposite forces that we unconsciously swing between\, like a pendulum. The first webinar in this series\, The Great Luciferic/Ahrimanic Face-off\,  explored their influence in our daily lives in some depth. A video of this webinar is available on request.  \nThis webinar considers how this split might evolve into a separate shadow self.  \nAbout the first Goetheanum \n2022 marks the centenary of the burning of the first Goetheanum on New Year’s Eve in 1922/23. As part of the 100th anniversary of the fire\, artists and members of the Anthroposophical Society around the world have been working with the forms and motifs of the 1st Goetheanum. These three webinars are part of this world-wide activity. \nFor the ceiling of the first Goetheanum\, Steiner gave a series of ‘epoch’ motifs to the artists – 12 sketches for the large cupola of the 1st Goetheanum and 7 Sketches for the small cupola. These motifs map the spiritual history of humanity and were intended to support a training in karmic vision through Art. \n. \nPhoto credits: from The Language of Color in the First Goetheanum by Hilde Raske  \n

SUMMARY:What is Phenomenology?
DESCRIPTION:  \nStream of Life Research Studio presents \na webinar\, a dialogue\, a sharing and questioning session \n  \nPhenomenology is a way of seeing the world \nPhenomenology is the study of the lived experience as it was/is lived \nPhenomenology a means of investigation which permits us to grow beyond ourselves \nGoethean Science is phenomenological in approach\, and is well known in anthroposophical circles as a qualitative approach to understanding the natural sciences. But phenomenology as a methodology for wider anthroposophic-based application is becoming increasingly popular in our circles; and the term ‘lived experience’ has gone into the our everyday language.  \nBut it can be confusing! Everyone has a different understanding of just what phenomenology is and how to apply it. \nTell me more \nThis webinar aims to unpack phenomenology as a philosophy\, as a research methodology\, and as a practice from the perspective of different researchers and practitioners from different fields and disciplines who use this approach in their work. \nThe session takes the form of presentations and dialogue as to our shared understandings of what we each mean by phenomenology. And if you are not a practitioner but would like to know more\, come along and ask questions. We’d love to share our passion with you! \nWho is it for?  \nAny one interested in finding out more about phenomenology. All welcome! \nProgram  \nWe open with the questions: What counts as phenomenology? What is the essence of phenomenology\, for all forms and approaches?  \nSeven researchers and practitioners share their experiences: Martin Samson (theology)\, Fiona Campbell (human sciences)\, Joanna Jaaniste (dramatherapy)\, Peter Stewart (Goethean Science)\, Greg Burgess (architecture)\, Lisa Devine (theology) and Teresa Carapeto (Education).  \nEach presenter describes their understanding through the lens of these four key characteristics: \n\nAn open attitude: how do I see with “new eyes”?  \nDwelling: how do I immerse myself into the object\, how do I engage with the experience\, the information?\nDisclosure: how can I reveal the essence of the phenomenon in question?\nDescription: sharing my experiences of working phenomenologically. How do I do this? \n\nQ&A session followed by a summing up of what we’ve learned. \nHow does it impact my professional practice? My way of seeing the world? \nSo what is phenomenology? and can anyone practice it? \nAnd is there interest for further discussion in an ongoing group? \nWhen will this webinar take place?  \n7pm Wednesday 16th November 2022 online \nCost \nBy donation  \nRegistration \nTo register \nHow to join the webinar \nAfter registration\, participants will be sent the Zoom link by email two (2) days beforehand\, and then again one (1) hour beforehand. \nPlease login for the webinar via your Zoom app and not via Eventbrite. \nFor more information \nPlease contact Fiona Campbell or Martin Samson

SUMMARY:Driven by the Spirit into the Desert
DESCRIPTION:  \nA webinar with Rev. Patrick Kennedy \nin the Shining a Light into the Darkness Zoom Series\n  \n  \n \nOur spiritual evolution does not take place separate from what is happening in the world. What used to take place in the hidden places of mystery schooling in the world is now a factor within history: The school of our becoming is life itself. In this presentation we will pick up the key elements that Rudolf Steiner names in his lecture from July 30th of 1918 and with them see better into the nature of what is happening in our time. What is revealed places us within powerful cultural streams of the present time – “Americanism\, Bolshevism and Jesuitism” – and reveals the profound challenge we are called to face in establishing the truly a human – and a truly human culture – within this context. It is a societal level expression of what is revealed as a mystery image at the opening of the ancient gospel texts: the temptation of Jesus in the desert. \n  \n  \nWhen \nSunday\, November 20 at 3:00 PM EST/Monday November 21 at 6.00am AEDT \nBackground Reading \nProblems of the Time\, 30 July 1918\, Berlin \nRegistration \nRegister here! \nRecordings of the webinars are not guaranteed. All efforts will be made to do so but please do not count on it. If you are unable to join the live webinar\, please do not register but rather check back in a few weeks after the webinar. Patrick Kennedy \nIn April of 2006\, Patrick Kennedy was consecrated into the priesthood in Chicago\, Illinois. Prior to attending the seminary in Stuttgart\, Germany\, Patrick studied and worked in the field of early childhood education and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California\, Santa Cruz in cultural anthropology. He has worked as a priest in the congregations in Devon\, Pennsylvania and the Greater Washington\, D.C.\, area. Then\, in Chestnut Ridge\, New York\, he took up the roles of both seminary director and resident priest in the local congregation. In July 2019\, Patrick\, his family\, and the entire seminary moved to the Toronto area. \n  \nThis series is hosted by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Branch \nof the Anthroposophical Society in America \n  \nImage credit: Temptations of Christ\, 12th-century mosaic in St Mark’s Basilica\, Venice

SUMMARY:The IAO Motif and the Foundation Stone Meditation
DESCRIPTION:The IAO:  the Cosmic Image of the Human Being\nand the Foundation Stone Meditation\nThe final webinar of 3 practice-based workshops exploring key challenges of 5th epoch\, 6th epoch \nand our cosmic future as represented in the ceiling motifs of the first Goetheanum \n  \nPresenter: Fiona Campbell  \nThis is the 3rd and final webinar in the The Great Luciferic/Ahrimanic face-off exploring the ceiling motifs of the first Goetheanum\, as a transformative picture of the spiritual history of humanity. They raise questions about their relevance to today and how they could guide our future development. Each motif embodies a soul stage of human development as we traverse our starry and earthly path as individuals and as humanity as a whole. \nTell me more \nThe tragedy of dualism in our souls\, and how it manifests has been the leitmotif of this series. In this final workshop\, we contemplate how the path from the IOA as cosmic word resounding from the beginning of time to the IAO\, the cosmic image of the human being\, is a picture and a guide as to how to grapple with our innately dualistic natures. \nIn this presentation\, we explore these theme through discussion\, contemplation and a little sketching of the motif.  \nWho are the webinars for? \nFor anyone interested in Steiner’s approach to the spiritual evolution of humanity. \nBut you don’t have to have attended previous webinars to enjoy the presentation and discussion.  \nWhen is it on? \nSaturday afternoon 4.00-5.30pm AEDT\nWebinar workshops:  26 November \nEach session will be recorded and a video of the event will be available post-webinar.\nA list of suggested drawing materials and background readings is also included in the cost.  \nHow much does it cost?  \nOnline series:  $35  | Concessions available on request – please contact Fiona.\nVideo recording included in the cost \nWhere do I book?  \nBook here! \nAfter booking\, I will send you a confirmation email containing the zoom link to join the meeting.  \nThen download the payment details and materials list.  \nFor more information \nPlease contact Fiona Campbell  \n  \nBackground reading \nThe Foundation Stone Meditation GA 260 \nBackground notes \nAbout the first Goetheanum \n2022 marks the centenary of the burning of the first Goetheanum on New Year’s Eve in 1922/23. \n. \nPhoto credits: from The Language of Color in the First Goetheanum by Hilde Raske  \n  \n\n‘In the beginning was the Word’ \n“Let us make human beings in our image\, to be like us’

SUMMARY:Complementaries and Counter Images: Working with Steiner's How to Know Higher Worlds through Art
DESCRIPTION:A masterclass studio\nwith Fiona Campbell\n\n  \n\n  \nImaginative exercises based on meditative exercises given by Steiner in How to Know Higher Worlds using colour\, archetypal processes\, observation and contemplation \nThis 7-session course provides an artistic entry into his preparatory exercises of inner and outer observation\, contemplation and moral development. It aims to nourishes creativity and feeds the soul life.  \nThrough exploration of the complementaries and counter-colours\, we can strengthen both our imaginative faculties and our life forces.  \nYou don’t have to be a trained artist\, or even very experienced\, to enjoy this course\, but you do need self-motivation\, some knowledge of Steiner’s meditative and colour work and some painting technique.  \nBackground information \nWith the increasing\, encroaching advent of AI-generated images filling our screens\, through film\, tv and internet\, the essential creativity that lives in the soul of every human being is under threat. AI-generated art is not creative. It does not arise out of human creativity but out of machines. In the face of this attack on our human-ness\, we need to bring a counter-impulse by strengthening our capacity to create inner images. \nBy working artistically and contemplatively with colour and the forming forces\, we can nurture the emergent qualities of our humanity\, such as our uniquely human capacities to create and to think and to think creatively\, We can counter this dehumanising force\,  \nWe need to  enliven our inner images to counter the life-destroying images of AI-generated art. \nWho are the masterclasses for? \n\nFor artists\, art therapists and art students looking to find a path of soul/spiritual development through the arts.\nFor anyone seeking a non-intellectual pathway into Steiner’s meditative path.\nFor anyone interested in gaining an appreciation of art as a revelation of spiritual realities through painting.\n\nTo get the most out of this course\, it is anticipated participants will work on their own between the fortnightly sessions.  \nRequired: familiarity with the anthroposophic approach to art and painting skills. Watercolour wet-on-dry skills is preferred but other techniques\, such as wet-on-wet or chalk pastels are acceptable but technical advice is not directed towards these media.   \nPlease note: this is not a step-by-step instructional class so not suitable for beginners in painting unless you are adventurous and self-motivated! \nWhat dates are the classes? \n2-4pm AEDT Friday afternoons \n10 February-19 May \nThe workshops are recorded but live participation is preferred\, unless your time zone makes this impossible.  \nHow much does it cost? \nOnline series:  $260 for 7×2 hr masterclasses\, including video recording. \nHow do I register? \nRegistrations closed. Come back next year! \nPayment details and a list of suggested materials and readings available upon registration. \nFor more information \nFor more information about the masterclass or for any questions\, please contact Fiona Campbell  \n  \nAbout Fiona Campbell \nFiona Campbell is a visual artist\, researcher\, lecturer and arts educator. SUMMARY:What is Phenomenology? Further investigations
DESCRIPTION:  \nStream of Life Research Studio presents \nFurther investigations into the nature and practice of phenomenology \n  \nThis webinar is the 2nd in our series and a follow-up to our first dialogue (16 November 2022). You are invited to join us again! \nThe aim of these webinars is to provide an interdisciplinary view of how different fields/disciplines understand phenomenology\, whose approach they use e.g. Goethean\, Heidegger\, Merleau-Ponty\, Zajonc  etc. and how they implement their approach in their professional practice.  \nTell me more about phenomenology \nPhenomenology is essentially the study of the structures of consciousness\, though it is better known as the study of the lived experience. It concerns how a phenomenon is experienced\, as it is experienced\, and aims to describe those experiences\, rather than theorise or explain them. Moreover\, in studying the experience\, phenomenology opens the way to understanding our consciousness of that experience.  In turn\, this can change our way of seeing the world (Campbell 2018*). \nGoethean Science is phenomenological in approach\, and is well known in anthroposophical circles as a qualitative approach to the natural sciences. But phenomenology as a methodology for wider anthroposophic-based application is becoming increasingly popular in our circles in the sphere of the arts and human sciences.  \nPhenomenology can be a philosophy\, a research methodology\, or a practice  – or all three. It can take different forms in different fields and even within the same field/discipline\, depending on whose philosophical  foundations you are applying.  \nSounds complex but fascinating? Then come along and find out more.  \nProgram  \nThree researcher/practitioners share their experiences: Joanna Jaaniste (Dramatherapy)\, Bronwen Haralambous (Education) and Lisa Devine (Counselling and Theology) \nEach presenter describes their understanding through the lens of these four key characteristics and how it impacts their professional practice or way of seeing the world through the lens of these four questions: \n\nAn open attitude: how do I see with “new eyes”?  \nDwelling: how do I immerse myself into the object\, how do I engage with the experience\, the information?\nDisclosure: how can I reveal the essence of the phenomenon in question?\nDescription: sharing my experiences of working phenomenologically. How do I do this? \n\nA short introduction to some common tools/methods used in phenomenological research will be overviewed. \nQ&A session to follow \nWhen will this webinar take place?  \n6.30 pm AEDT/5.30 pm AEST Wednesday 15th February 2023 online.  \nPlease note: the webinar is not being recorded. \nCost \n$20 donation or whatever you can afford to support us. \nRegistration \nTo register \nHow to join the webinar \nAfter registration\, participants will be sent the Zoom link by email two (2) days beforehand\, and then again one (1) hour beforehand. \nPlease login for the webinar via your Zoom app and not via Eventbrite. \nFor more information \nPlease contact Fiona Campbell or Martin Samson \n  \n*Fiona Campbell (2018)\, ‘Flow\, resistance and thinking : a phenomenological study of creativity‘ Doctoral thesis\, UTS Digital Thesis Collection.

Van is a council member of the Visual Art Section of North America\, a mentor with the Academy of Himalayan Art and Child Development\, editor of Pacifica Journal\, and an award-winning author of numerous books on culture and the arts including Drawing with Hand\, Head and Heart\, The Secret Language of Form: Visual Meaning in Art and Nature and the recently published Teaching Art History: Engaging Adolescents in Art\, Cultural History and the Evolution of Consciousness. \nFind out more about Van James here or Click here for Van’s YouTube Channel  on painting \n  \n  \n\n“We must begin with inner\, not outer perception\, by stimulating in the child a strong sense of symmetry. Even in the case of the very youngest children we can begin to do this. For example: we draw some figure on the blackboard and indicate the beginning of a symmetrical line. Then we try to make the child realise that the figure is not complete; they must find out how to complete it. In this way\, we awaken an inner\, active urge in the child to complete something as yet unfinished. This helps them to express an absolutely right conception of something that is a reality. The teacher\, of course\, must have inventive talent but that is always a very good thing. Above all else the teacher must have mobile inventive thought.” \n\nIn A Modern Art of Education by Rudolf Steiner  \n

SUMMARY:Meeting Christ in the Etheric in Response to the Challenges of our Times
DESCRIPTION:A Webinar with James Dyson\, MD \nPart of the “Shining a Light into the Darkness” series.\nWhat is it about?  \nHuman consciousness has slowly come from the cosmos to the earth via the ethers & the elements which have mediated the Logos into the earth to create the human being as an image of the Divine.  That creative process\, working from Logos into the human body\, came to its culmination around the time of the Mystery of Golgotha. Before that\, human initiation had to be a journey backward to reconnect to the elements and their etheric connections that bridged to the Spirit. All earlier initiation was to bring the earthly ego from the 4fold nature of the elements\, and awakening the ego into the etheric world and the spirits beyond. \nThis process became ever more difficult as time proceeded. This separation (as expressed in “The stars once spoke to man…”) through the ethers and elements\, by the time of Golgotha had grown silent and led to the widespread desecration of soul which Jesus of Nazareth had to encounter. \nHumanity\, as it has crossed into 21st century\, is now walking the path that Jesus of Nazareth walked in his 20s when he was meeting the deserted altars. We are meeting the destitution of the soul\, the denial of the Logos\, meaninglessness: the power of the Logos no longer reflected in the environment around us. \nHow do human beings find their way to speaking the Logos back to the stars?  Christ’s penetration of the body of the earth\, bringing His being now closer to humans in the etheric realm\, can manifest in many ways but\, archetypally\, in the meeting of one human being with another.  We meet the etheric world through the human encounter – where ‘conversation is more precious than the light\, and the light is more precious than gold.’  Through human encounter\, human communication\, we can meet Christ’s etheric body. Through human connection we regain connection to the Logos. \nWhen \nMonday\, 27 March 2023 at 7.00am AEDT \nRegistration \nRegister here \n  \nAbout James Dyson \n James Dyson\, M.D. was a co-founder of one of the few English speaking anthroposophical medical clinics\, Park Attwood\, in the UK where he worked from 1979 to 2003. He has practiced as a doctor in Steiner Waldorf Schools and in centers for social therapy. His areas of special interest are developmental psychology and adult mental health\, and he is a regular contributor to anthroposophic therapeutic trainings in the UK and internationally. James has added Psychosynthesis to his training and is a prolific lecturer of Rudolf Steiner’s body of work in the healing fields.

SUMMARY:What is Phenomenology?And how do I begin?
DESCRIPTION:Stream of Life Research Studio presents \nA webinar on how to practice phenomenology in the workplace \n  \nThis webinar is the 3rd in our series and a follow-up to our first two dialogues (16 November 2022 and 15 February 2023). You are invited to join us again! \nThis series of webinars aims is to provide an interdisciplinary view of how different professions understand and implement phenomenology\, including how this form of research supports professional practice. Through sharing our collective experience of working phenomenologically\, we address the questions: what is phenomenology? and how do I practice it? \nAre you interested in learning how to work phenomenologically?  \nIn our first two webinars\, we have heard from a range of practitioners and researchers how they approach phenomenology in their professional practice and some techniques they use. Now\, in this third and final webinar\, we introduce how to begin working phenomenologically yourself.  \nProgram \nFirstly\, Robin Steele will be presenting her hermeneutic research into therapeutic change through psychophonetics. \nThen\, an open discussion on how to take the first steps in developing a phenomenological method for researching spiritual science. \nParticipants are invited to submit their questions in advance to the organisers to help facilitate the discussion. \nFor both parts of the program\, we will be using this framework: \n\nAn open attitude: how do I see with “new eyes”?  \nDwelling: how do I immerse myself into the object\, how do I engage with the experience\, the information?\nDisclosure: how can I reveal the essence of the phenomenon in question?\nDescription: sharing my experiences of working phenomenologically. How do I do this? \n\nA practice-based workshop is planned for 13 May in Sydney and potentially early Spring -TBA \nWhen will this webinar take place?  \n6.30 pm AEDT/5.30 pm AEST Wednesday 29th March 2023 online. \nFor more information \nPlease contact Fiona Campbell or Martin Samson \n  \n\nPhenomenology is essentially the study of the structures of consciousness\, though it is better known as the study of the lived experience. \n \nIt concerns how a phenomenon is experienced\, as it is experienced\, and aims to describe those experiences\, rather than theorise or explain them. Moreover\, in studying the experience\, phenomenology opens the way to understanding our consciousness of that experience. In turn\, this can change our way of seeing the world (Campbell 2018*). \n\n  \n*Fiona Campbell (2018)\, ‘Flow\, resistance and thinking : a phenomenological study of creativity‘ Doctoral thesis\, UTS Digital Thesis Collection.

SUMMARY:Projective Geometry\, The World of Life and The World of Soul
DESCRIPTION: \nA part-time online course facilitated by the Melbourne Rudolf Steiner Seminar\n\n\n\n\nProjective geometry began as an exact science yet its own development has turned even science inside out. Rudolf Steiner saw in this meeting of opposites a new beginning – and called it the polarity of space versus counterspace. It is the interplay of etheric and physical and the forms of the plant-world tell of this mystery. \nThis polar (threefold) relation lives also in the soul’s thinking\, feeling and willing. What does Rudolf Steiner mean by ‘pure thinking’ ? Well\, projective geometry leads us to experiences of that. The new soul condition indicated in Rudolf Steiner’s Philosophy of Freedom is that of the thinking will – yet this is no mere admixture of the two. \nThere is no need to read Philosophy of Freedom before the course\, but participants will need to read at least the short 8th and final chapter – entitled “Practical Conclusion – of the Earlier Work Truth and Science” (GA 3). Super-condensed and real work for the mind\, this elicits an experience\, alive in thought\, of what human freedom means. \n\n\n\n\nDate/time \nDuration: Term 2. Mondays 1 May to 12 June. \nMonday evenings from 7.00 – 9.00pm (Melbourne time) \nCost \nCost: $445 per term \nTo register \nRegister here! \nFor more information \nFor enrolment questions\, please contact Carmen in the office on +03 9876 5199 or email her. \nAbout the tutor \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGordon Woolard is an experienced Steiner teacher and educator from kindergarten to class 12. His trainings include university Physics\, the Foundation and Education years at Emerson College\, the Wynstones Science Teachers’ course\, the Michael Hall Kindergarten training\, Joinery and Cabinet Making\, a post grad teaching diploma for SpLD (Dyslexia) and Audrey McAllen’s Extra Lesson training. SUMMARY:Therapies for Care and Recovery Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A three-day workshop focussed on practical\, effective care and intervention strategies to alleviate symptoms of trauma\, stress and anxiety.\nAcross our New Zealand community\, we are seeing many people affected by trauma\, stress\, and anxiety. In response\, we want to widen the circle of those able to offer supportive nursing therapies that we know provide valuable care and recovery in such experiences in any situation. \nWhether you are a nurse\, therapist or caregiver we invite your registration for this three-day workshop focussed on practical\, effective care and intervention strategies to alleviate symptoms of trauma\, stress and anxiety. \nThis is an opportunity to explore both patterns of physiology and presenting symptoms\, through a lens that includes their weaving between body and spirit. Central to our learning process\, healing plants and external treatments will become familiar to you\, preparing you to assess and safely offer supportive therapies\, based on a sound rationale. \nOur inspiration is Anthroposophic Medicine\, where nursing care and therapies work out of a positive concept of health that recognises a self-regulated equilibrium. Central to this approach is the emphasis on human autonomy along with the vital importance of care and the therapeutic relationship. Within this picture a signature of the anthroposophic nursing pathway is caring that recognises it is our knowing\, our way of being and our way of acting that makes a quintessential difference. \nIn addition to working with a range of external treatments and healing substances\, this workshop introduces biography work\, the inner path of the nurse or therapist and casework to help with individualised support across various situations and settings. \n\nWhen and where \n12 – 14 May 2023\nTaruna College\, \n33 Te Mata Peak Road\nPO Box 8103\nHavelock North\nNew Zealand \nCost\n $550 NZ (includes $100 NZ registration deposit) \nRegister \nRegister here \nNurse Tutors \nDeborah Bednarek RN MN ANS\nFind out more about Deborah here. \nMichelle Vette RN MN ANS\nFind out more about Michelle here \nFor more information about this workshop \nGet in touch to register your interest via info@taruna.ac.nz \nFor more information about the Anthroposophic Nursing Training \nTaruna College in New Zealand offers the Foundation Course in Anthroposophic Nursing (FCAN).
