SUMMARY:Working with the Four Elements in Nature: Veil Painting Course
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nThe basis of artistic creation is not what is\,\nbut what might be; not the real\, but the possible. \n\nRudolf Steiner\, in The Aesthetics of Goethe’s Worldview \n  \nThis online course uses the gestures of the material states of solid\, fluid\, gas\, and heat (earth\, water\, air and warmth) to explore the hidden forces of Nature\, and how they reveal themselves through the gestures and patterns through Nature’s imprint on the physical world around and in us. \nWhat will I learn? \nThe course is an opportunity to develop your veil painting skills through developing brush mastery and enlivened perception of the world in and around us. After working with each different element\, participants will create an artwork with a nature theme\, bringing all four gestures together in one artwork. \nEach element has a different gesture that characterises the phenomenal world of the etheric or life world. These gestures provide variations in veiling approaches that go beyond being mere ‘outer’ techniques and point to how the task of the artist is not to paint the visible\, but reveal the invisible. \nWe use watercolour wet-on-dry painting\, the preferred technique of any anthroposophic painting training. It is not an easy skill to develop but very satisfying to master. \nYou can read more about the anthroposophic approach and why we prefer watercolour over acrylics and oils in this short article. \nWho is it for? \n\nFor anyone interested in learning the wet-on-dry watercolour technique.\nFor artists\, art therapists and Steiner (Waldorf) teachers who want to deepen their understanding of colour (PD certificates available if requirements are met).\n\nWhen is it? \n3.00pm-5.00pm AEST fortnightly on Saturdays\n7 June- 2 August 2025 \nCost \n$240 AUD/$160 USD\n$250 for PD certificate\nVideo recordings included in the fee\, available for private study. \n \n\nBOOK HERE\n\nThe payment options\, Zoom link\, and a list of materials will be sent to you after booking. \nFor more information \nThis course also a core component of Art as a Path of Schooling for the Soul. It provides the beginnings of a sound foundation in the anthroposophic (Steiner) approach to colour and painting. \n\nContact\n\n \n \nPhoto credit: Sunlit Tree By A Waterfall\, I © Fiona Campbell\n \n

SUMMARY:Memes That Matter: Conversations That Count
DESCRIPTION:  \nMemes That Matter: Conversations That Count \nis a social experiment based on two premises: that we know more than we think\, and that visual metaphors can tap into this knowledge. To this end\, I have created a series of memes that comment on current affairs with an eye to their metaphysical meaning. Memes that Matter is an attempt to explore these meanings in fortnightly meet-ups. Each session will explore a socially relevant topic through the lens of a particular meme and will consist of: \n\nIntroduction to the meme and its topic \nConversations in small breakout\nSharing in community\n\nMemes that Matter is a social artwork and operates on a gift basis. It is inspired by Joseph Beuys’ idea of society as an artwork and its conceptual underpinnings: the transpolar politics known as social three-folding\, conceived by Rudolf Steiner. \nOur first topic will deal with: The irony of it all. \nWhen \n\nMeet-ups start on the 06 May 2025 and continue fortnightly ( 20 May\, 3 June\,17 June etc).   \n\n\nTimezones  \n\n\nTimezone A  / Australia (AWST): 7–8 AM\nTimezone B  / Australia (AWST): 6–7 PM\n \n\nThe meet-ups start on Tuesday 06 May 2025. You can join at any time. \nTo register  \nFind out more \nSubscribe to stay in the loop and receive updates (get my latest posts\, including written and visual material as well as selected video clips)\, subscribe!  \nSubscribe  \nHoping to see you soon\, online or otherwise\,  \nHorst

SUMMARY:The inner nature of colour: as pictorial\, as luminous
DESCRIPTION:A Painted Space Studio workshop\n  \nWhen we experience the life of colour\, \nwe step out of our own skins and take part in cosmic life. \nRudolf Steiner \n  \nColour as a way to the spirit \nThis online painting course offers the opportunity for a deeper experience and understanding of the inner nature of colour. Building on Goethe’s Theory of Colour\, yet quite different from it\, Rudolf Steiner shows us the world of colour as one might experience it in the soul world. \nAbout Steiner’s colour circle \nWe work in conjunction with Rudolf Steiner’s colour circle and Colour lectures (CW 291\, CW 275). In these lectures\, Steiner describes the colours as having either a pictorial (image) and or a luminous (lustre) nature. We explore what this means for our understanding and experience of colour that has implications for how we perceive what we call ‘reality’. \nIn this approach\, Steiner lays a foundation for a practical technique of working with colour that leads us to a new form of artistic creativity\, a new way of understanding of colour\, which is the central of the anthroposophic approach to painting. \nWho is it for? \n\nFor artists\, art therapists and art students looking to find a path of soul/spiritual development through the arts.\nFor anyone pursuing a deeper understanding of the anthroposophic approach to art\, colour and painting. \nFor participants in the 2nd year of Art as a Path of Schooling for the Soul.\n\n \nDesirable background:: experience of working with Goethe’s Theory of Colour. \nRecommended: basic watercolour wet-on-dry or veiling skills (you can use wet-on-wet or pastel if preferred\, but wet-on-dry watercolour painting is recommended).  \nBackground readings: Steiner’s Colour lectures Part I: ‘The Nature of Colour’ \nWhen is it? \n15 February-10 May 2025\, Saturdays 3pm-5pm AEDT\nSeven fortnightly classes plus recording \nCost \n$300 AUD/$195 USD\n$310 for PD certificate \nVideo recording and handouts included in the fee. \n \n\nBook here!\n\nThe payment options\, Zoom link\, and list of materials will be sent after booking. \nFor more information \nContact Fiona Campbell \nThis course also a core component of Art as a Path of Schooling for the Soul. It follows on from Working with Colour Moods. Together\, they are integral to the anthroposophic (Steiner) approach to colour and painting. \n \n \nFeature image: Steiner’s Colour circle

SUMMARY:Spirit in Human\, Human in Spirit: Investigations with Painting
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nPainted Space Studio presents \nA course in the spiritual/physical nature of the human being\n  \n“In the head the power of faith; \nin the heart the might of love ; \nin the full human being\, all-sustaining hope.”  \nRudolf Steiner \n  \nRudolf Steiner’s picture imaginations arose from direct experiences of the spirit. He captured many of these pictures in his pastels sketches and paintings\, called the Training Sketches for the Artist.  He suggested that working artistically with these sketches would act as an impulse in us to find new directions for the future of art as a path for spiritual-scientific inquiry. \nThis online masterclass in painting over seven fortnightly sessions examines the human being in connection to the spirit from three different perspectives: the spiritual impulse in the human being\, the human impulse in the spiritual world\, and the threefold human being as spirit\, soul and body. \nWe use three of Steiner’s training sketches as our starting point for this exploration. \nWhat are Steiner’s Training Sketches? \nThe Training Sketches can be seen as ‘picture seeds’ and were given to the artists in answer to a request from the painter Henni Geck for a new impulse in art. Henni Geck (1884-1951) was the first painter to use these indications. \nWho is the course for? \n\nFor Steiner teachers\, artists\, art therapists and art students seeking to understand the hidden forces of Cosmos and Nature.\n\nPainting skills and understanding of core anthroposophic principles recommended to get the most out of this course. \nSelected readings by Rudolf Steiner complement the practical work. \nWhen is it? \n14 February-9 May 2025\, Fridays 2pm-4pm AEDT\nSeven fortnightly classes plus recording \nCost \n$280 AUD/$190 USD for ongoing participants\n$290 for PD certificate or for new participants enrolling only in this course.\nVideo recordings included in the fee\, available for private study. \nBook here!\nYou will be sent the payment details and a list of suggested materials and readings after booking.  \nThe Zoom link is sent one (1) day before the workshop begins. \nFor more information \nContact Fiona Campbell \n  \nFeature image: The Threefold Human Being © Rudolf Steiner Verlag \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Three Kings and a Rose Cross
DESCRIPTION:  \nPainted Space Studio \npresents \nAn artistic workshop for Christmas\n  \nJoin me for a creative afternoon workshop of art and conversation\, exploring Rudolf Steiner’s enigmatic Three Kings motif\, created by Steiner in pastels for Christmas 1923. \nThe Three Kings festival will be significant for our future\, Steiner states:In the Rose-Cross we have the fourfold human being: in the Cross the physical human\, the etheric human and the astral human\, and in the roses\, the Self. How do we connect the roses of the Christmas tree with the cross of Easter? And how do the Three Magi from the East play into this? What is Mary’s special role here? \nArt-making is a way of knowing\, of understanding through doing and creating. Working together\, we seek to find answers to these questions\, while preparing ourselves for the coming Christmas festival. \nJoin us in person in Mount Barker SA on 8 December or online on 14 December \nAbout the workshop \nArtist Fiona Campbell will lead participants through the process of building up the motif in colour\, recommending colours and gestures\, and providing expert guidance in how to create a beautiful\, \,meaningful artwork to take home. \nYou do not need drawing/painting skills to enjoy this hands-on workshop. \nWhen is it on? \nOnline: 3.00 pm- 5.00 pm Adelaide (ACDT)\,  Saturday 14th December\, 2024.\nMount Barker: 2.00 pm – 5.00 pm Adelaide (ACDT)\,  Sunday 8th December\, 2024. \nCost \nOnline workshop\n$40 includes video recording \nMount Barker workshop\n$60 with art materials provided\, afternoon tea included.\n$30 if you bring your own materials\nSpace limited\, so book soon. \nBookings \nBook here \n You will be sent the workshop details after booking\, with a list of suggested materials after payment. \nFor more information \nPlease contact Fiona Campbell \n  \n  \nFeature image: Three Kings © Rudolf Steiner Verlag

SUMMARY:A Conversation With Your Garden: Plant Observation And Drawing
DESCRIPTION:  \nPainted Space Studio \npresents \nA Series of Workshops on Goethean Observation and Nature Moods\n  \nLet’s prepare ourselves Spring! \nSpring is the ideal time of year to turn our eyes to Nature and learn her secrets through Goethean observation\, drawing and reflection. Spending time up close with Nature in the garden\, a park\, a local nature reserve or even just with a few pot plants on your balcony is both energising and healing. \n(Of course\, any time of the year in Nature is good\, but Spring and Autumn have particular qualities of change and transformation especially suited to drawing and observation.)  \nWhat will we do? \nThrough the six online workshops\, learn to see anew the wonder of your own garden. Each workshop leads us through a process of becoming ‘at home’ with Nature\, from quiet contemplation\, careful observation\, and mood immersion\, to sketching\, colour work and reflection. \nLearn the core stages of a phenomenological process and practice the different drawing/sketching techniques to take us through this process. Techniques include charcoal\, pencil\, paint and pastel. Participants keep a visual diary to document their discoveries and observations. \nBy getting up close with our garden in this way\, the world around us becomes more alive – living and becoming. \nWhat is Goethean phenomenology? \nGoethean phenomenology (also known as Goethean observation) helps us develops new eyes for the world around us. It offers us another way of being in the world\, one that brings us into a more participatory connection with Nature and ourselves. We learn to step into the world and feel at home with it. \nWho is it for? \n\nFor Steiner teachers\, artists\, art therapists and art students seeking to understand how the formative forces work in Nature\nFor anyone interested in knowing more about Goethean phenomenology and how to practice it.\n\nSuitable for all levels. You do not need to be an experienced artist to enjoy these workshops.  \nVideo recordings included in the fee\, available for private study. \nWhen is it on?  \n5.00pm-6.30pm AEST\, 11 September to 20 November 2024 \nHow do I book? \n \nBook here\nPlease complete the online form to book for this series of workshops. You will be sent the payment details and a list of suggested materials and readings after booking.  \nThe Zoom link is sent one (1) day before the workshop begins. \nMore information \nFind out more about this course and others from Painted Space or contact Fiona Campbell. \n  \n  \nOh\, I who wish to grow\,
I look out\, and inside me the tree grows. \nRainer Maria Rilke \n  \nFeature image: Ethereal Space of Plant Growth\, Plate I\, The Plant between Sun and Earth © Olive Whicher

SUMMARY:Working with Steiner's Nature Mood Sketches
DESCRIPTION:  \nPainted Space Studio \npresents \nThe Seven School (Friedwart) Sketches series \n  \nThis fortnightly online course introduces you to Rudolf Steiner’s approach to painting and his understanding of how the formative forces shape and move the world around us through his own pastel sketches. The course uses the wet-on-dry veiling technique or pastels\, if preferred. \nThe Seven School (or Friedwart) Sketches were first given to Waldorf teachers as part of Steiner’s new impulse for understanding both Art and Nature\, to help students explore invisible yet objective laws of Nature. The series leads us from the archetypal nature moods of sunrise and sunset through the four elements to the human world\, culminating in a Madonna and Child motif.  \nWhat are the Training Sketches? \nTheses sketches are part of a comprehensive portfolio known as the Training Sketches for the Artists. Along with The Nine Training Sketches (Nature Moods) and the Goetheanum epochs motifs\, they form an important part of this portfolio. \nBut these sketches are not images of external natural events; they refer to acts that are effective in nature and human\, says Christiane Haid\, head of the Visual Arts Section at the Goetheanum. She believes that working with the creative forces in and around us can become the starting point for facing tasks in healing the world.  \nWho is this course for? \n\nFor Steiner teachers\, artists\, art therapists and art students seeking to understand how the formative forces work in Nature and Human.\n\n\nFor anyone interested in the foundations of the anthroposophic approach to art\, colour and painting. You do not need to be an experienced artist to enjoy this course. \n\nThis course is a core course of the Art as a Path of Schooling for the Soul training. \nWhen is it? \n3pm-5pm Saturdays AEST\, 31 August-23 November 2024\nSeven two-hour fortnightly sessions. Participants are expected to do some homework between classes. Edited recordings of the sessions are available post-class but live participation is preferred\, unless your time zone makes this impossible. \nCost \n$300 AUD/$205 USD\n$305 AUD for PD certificate \nVideo recording included in the fee\, available for private study. \n\nBook here!\n\n\nHow to join the workshops \nThe Zoom link\, payment details\, a list of materials and suggested readings will be sent to you after booking. \n  \nOther Painted Space Studio workshop  courses \n \n \nFor more information\n\nContact \n\n\n \n \n\n‘…and in the creations of the artist t here will appear to us \nthe traces of his soul experience in the cosmos‘ \n  \nSteiner\n \n \n \nFeature image: Sunlit Tree by a Waterfall No. 6 © Fiona Campbell\n

DESCRIPTION:Painted Space Studio \npresents \n\n\n\n\nAn Art Intensive For Nourishing The Soul Forces\n\n\n\n\n \nLet’s prepare ourselves Spring! \nThis intensive therapeutic painting workshop brings the health-giving forces of the harmonious breath into our souls and bodies as we breathe out the Winter and breathe in the renewed life coming towards us. \n\n \nLate Winter can be a difficult time: Nature’s death shudder is still with us\, but already signs of hope and new growth are appearing in the earth. By preparing our souls for the burgeoning forces of Spring\, we nurture the new forces arising in our inmost being and bring them into harmonious rhythm with Nature’s rhythms. \n\n \nBased on a classic Hauschka therapy exercise Painting as an Exercise for Breathing\, this online workshop is an immersive experience using wet-on-wet painting or pastels and is for anyone in need of soul nourishment. \n\n \nOnline guided exercises and contemplation interspersed with working quietly in the comfort of your home with the company of an Australia-wide community. \n\n\n\n\nWhy join the live class? And we create within a divine-spiritual community. Divine beings look over our shoulders; we create in their company and in the company of like-minded others. The gift is in the giving\, in the doing\, as much as in the product. \nWho is it for?\nBeginners welcome! SUMMARY:Working with Colour Chords
DESCRIPTION:A foundation course in wet-on-dry painting\nwith artist Fiona Campbell \nWe explore how colours work with each other and upon each other in harmony\, in polarity and as complementaries. It follows the Assenza approach to colour and painting\, which is based on Goethe’s and Steiner’s theories of colour. \nThis fortnightly course also provides you with the foundations of the anthroposophic approach to wet-on-dry painting\, where translucent coloured surfaces are continually overlaid with each other\, so that new colours and new surfaces arise out of their meeting. From this colour interplay\, forms gradually arise. \nThis online course is part of the Art as a Path of Schooling for the Soul training.   \nWhat is the Assenza approach?\nBeppe Assenza (1905-1985) was already an established artist when he became inspired by Rudolf Steiner’s work on the nature of colour and his colour theory. Unlike the Wagner and Collois d’Herbois schools of anthroposophic art\, he chose to work phenomenologically with colours i.e. out of our lived experience of painting red\, blue\, yellow\, etc. His approach is both free and playful and yet methodological in its exploration that produces an open\, atmospheric picture surface. In this way\, we train our perceptual faculties while deepening our soul experience of colours in composition. \nWho is it for? \n\nFor anyone interested in exploring the different techniques under the wet-on-dry umbrella.\nFor artists\, art therapists and Steiner (Waldorf) teachers who want to deepen their understanding of colour (PD certificates available).\n\nThis course is core to the Art as a Path of Schooling for the Soul training. \nWhen is it? \n27 April-29 June 2024\, Saturdays 3.30pm-5.30pm AEDT (10 hours class time) \nFive fortnightly sessions plus video recording \nHow much does it cost? \n$230 AUD/$165 USD\n$250 AUD for PD certificate \nVideo recording included in the fee\, available for three months. \nHow do I register? \nRegister here \nFor more information \nFor more information about the course or for any questions\, please contact Fiona Campbell  \n  \nAbout Fiona Campbell \nFiona Campbell is a visual artist\, researcher\, lecturer and arts educator. She has an interdisciplinary PhD on creativity and cognition and has been a professional artist and arts educator for more than 30 years. \nUnder the name Painted Space\, she runs a schooling course that combines inner work with visual arts training.  \nYou can find out more about Fiona at Painted Space or listen to an ABC Soul Search interview with her about the anthroposophical approach to art. \n  \n  \n  \nIf I delve deeper into the characters of the different colours\, they show me their dynamic qualities. Out my experience\, I can then let the colours guide me. \nAssenza \n  \n  \nFeature image: New Life\, by Fiona Campbell\, 2017 \nInsert image: courtesy of Painted Space

SUMMARY:Working with Colour\, Out of Colour
DESCRIPTION:Painted Space Studio \n \nA short online course\nintroducing how to work with colour in painting\n  \nAnthroposophic approach to painting \nHow do we experience colour? And what does it mean that form arises out of colour\, and not that colour is attached to form? So how do we paint ‘out of colour’ and not form? To answer these questions\, we start with Goethe’s Theory of Colour as our foundation. Using immersive wet-on-wet watercolour\, we explore the qualities and gestures of each colour\, and learn how colours have a life of their own\, qualities that express their very essence\, when painted ‘out of colour’. \nWhy Goethe’s Theory of Colour?  \nGoethe proposed a revolutionary method of approaching the phenomena of colour\, one which integrates the observer with the experience. Further\, Goethe was concerned with the qualities of colours\, which he called the ‘deeds and sufferings of the light’. By immersing our senses in the colours\, we come a deep\, intuitive relationship with them that connects us more strongly to both the physical and soul worlds. \nThis course provides a foundation to the approach to painting used in Steiner (Waldorf) schools and to the anthroposophic understanding of colour itself.  \nWho is it for?  \n\nFor Steiner class teachers who would like to learn more about the nature of colour as used in the Steiner School curriculum\nFor anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of the anthroposophic approach to art\, colour and painting. \n\nWhen is it? \n2 March-6 April\, Saturdays 4pm-5.15pm AEDT\nSix weekly sessions plus recording \nCost \n$170 AUD/$120 USD\n$190 AUD for PD certificate \nBookings \nBook here! \nFor more information \nFind out more about this course and others\,  \n  \nAbout Painted Space Studio \nPainted Space Studio offers a comprehensive training program in art\, emphasising its potential as a spiritual practice. By recognising art as a bridge to the spiritual\, the studio provides individuals with an creative path for harmonising and strengthening their inner being through art. \nPainted Space uses the anthroposophic approach to art as its framework\, but leads each artistically-striving individual towards the full expression of their own creativity\, which goes beyond mere aesthetics and taps into the profound connection between the human spirit and the creative process. \nDirector: Fiona Campbell  \n  \nFeature image: Goethe’s symmetric colour wheel with associated symbolic qualities (1809) \n

SUMMARY:What is veil painting? Exploring the four elements through gesture
DESCRIPTION:  \nWith artist Fiona Campbell \nThis online workshop uses the four elements – warmth\, air\, water\, earth – to build on the foundations of the wet-on-dry watercolour technique\, introduced last April in What is veil painting? And why do we do it? \nThe workshop teaches classic veiling; participants will create an artwork with a nature theme with guidance from the presenter. The workshop will be recorded and available for three months.  \nWhy we use this technique? \nThe workshop demonstrates the classic veiling technique\, as used in therapy and meditative practices. We use the theme of the four elements to explore how different brush strokes embody different activities and moods\, and the effects this has on both painting and painting.   \nEach element has a different gesture that characterises the phenomenal world of Nature. These gestures provide variations in veiling approaches that go beyond being mere ‘outer’ techniques and point to how we must learn to paint out of our inner soul life rather than out of ‘special effects’.  \nThe workshop also explores the fundamentals of the anthroposophic approach to painting.  \nWho is it for? \nFor anyone interested in learning more about this unique watercolour approach to enlivening colour.  \nFor anyone interested in the anthroposophic approach to art\, colour and painting.  \nWhen  \nSaturday 30 September\, 2023 at 2.00pm AEST \nCost \n$65 includes video recording  \nHow to register  \nBook here \nHow to join the workshop\nThe Zoom link and a list of materials will be sent to you after you register. \nFor more information \nPlease contact Fiona Campbell  \n  \nAbout the presenter \nFiona Campbell PhD is a visual artist\, researcher\, lecturer and arts educator. She does interdisciplinary research on phenomenology\, creativity and cognition and has been a professional artist and arts educator for more than 30 years.  \nFiona provides a wealth of professional and teaching practice with this specialist watercolour approach\, including 35 years as a professional artist\, 10 years art therapy practice and 12 years as a lazure/mural artist.  \nFiona has been involved with Anthroposophy for over 40 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience about the core principles and practice of Steiner’s work to her classes. She draws on Rudolf Steiner’s Colour lectures\, his ‘portfolio’ of training sketches for artists and his numerous references to the role of art and the task of the modern artist.  \nYou can find out more about Fiona here or listen to an 2021 ABC Soul Search interview with her about the anthroposophical approach to art. \n  \n“The basis of artistic creation is not what is\, \nbut what might be; not the real\, but the possible. \nRudolf Steiner\, in The Aesthetics of Goethe’s Worldview \n  \nPhoto credit: Trees in Sunny Air\, © Fiona Campbell

SUMMARY:Anthroposophical Professional Development Initiative
DESCRIPTION:Introducing a new online course \nFor terms 3 & 4\, 2023 \nWhat is the Anthroposophical World View?\nThe aim of these two blocks of lectures and workshops is to present an overview of what is often experienced as an overwhelmingly large and complex body of knowledge\, particularly for student teachers and other professionals working in anthroposophically-based groups and organisations. \n\n\n\n\nA closer understanding of how spirit and matter permeate each other lies at the very heart of any truly monistic world view\, such as the one Rudolf Steiner gave to the world. It is out of this very understanding that Anthroposophy can be concretely applied in so many practical fields of life. \nLecture series \n\n\n\nTerm 4 Lecture Series II: An Introduction to Rudolf Steiner’s Cosmology \nDownload the lecture program \n\n\n\nFull course program \nThree Worlds – 4 Ethers : Connecting Spirit and Matter\nBlock 1 (Term 3) explores the links between the physical\, astral and spiritual worlds and how nature and the human being are placed within this multi-tiered reality. This also includes the Manifestation process by which spirit incarnates into physical form and substance via the medium of the 4 Ethers\, which form the bridge between spirit and matter. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSteiner’s Cosmology: The Cosmic Mission of Humanity and Earth\nBlock II (Term 4) explores the larger Chronological context\, which leads us to the question of humanity’s cosmic origins and future destiny. Where did humanity come from? Where are we going? What is our cosmic purpose and mission on Earth and within the larger spiritual universe? Rudolf Steiner’s surprising answers can throw a profound light on such questions\, including the problem of good and evil\, human freedom and the longer-term consequences of the seeds we are planting right now\, both as individuals and collectively as a humanity. The cosmological picture also provides a context to the currently raging\, worldwide battle between Good and Evil and can help us face this battle with renewed confidence and strength in our humanity. \n\n\n\n\nDownload the program here. \nCost \nPlease check the program flyer for fees \nEnrolment  \nDownload the enrolment form \nFor more information \n\n\n\n\nFor a 15-minute video introduction\nContact Johannes on: +61 (0) 414 724 587  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Breathing through the night: a painting intensive for Winter
DESCRIPTION: \nA soul-building activity over five evenings\nwith artist Fiona Campbell \n  \n‘Colours are the breath of the living soul’ \nDr Margarethe Hauschka \n  \nThis online series over 5 evenings brings the health-bringing forces of the harmonious breath into our souls and bodies through painting the cycle of the night. \nBased on a classic exercise called Painting as an Exercise for Breathing from the Hauschka art therapy training\, we will paint the cycle of light and darkness from sunset to sunrise using colour and verse.  \nThis is a deep breathing activity\, an artistic contemplative ideal for enlivening the inner and outer chill of Winter. We breath in colour\, and then breathe out its complementary in a transforming process that  enlivens both the life body and soul. In this way\, we bring our innermost being  into connection with nature\,  moving gently between the two. \nWho is it for?  \nFor anyone who feels the need for soul nourishment at this time of year. The exercises support our mental health and overall wellbeing by harmonising the breath\, easing our tensions and bringing our polarities into balance.  \nYou don’t have to be an experienced painter to find nourishment in this series. You can use pastels\, wet-on-wet or wet-on-dry techniques. \nWhen \n10th July – 14th July 2023 at 5.00pm AEST \nCost \n$160 for 5 sessions\, including video recording. \nHow to register  \nRegister here \nMaterials list\, payment details and suggested readings will be sent after registration. \nThe Zoom link for the workshop will be sent two hours beforehand. It will be the same link for each day.  \nFor more information \nFor more information\, please contact Fiona Campbell  \nAbout the presenter \nFiona Campbell PhD is a visual artist\, muralist\, researcher\, lecturer and arts educator. She trained in the anthroposophic approach to the arts at Tobias School of Art and Transpersonal Therapy\, first as an artist\, then as a therapist.  \nFiona have been a professional artist for more than 30 years and regularly offers masterclasses in wet on dry painting and art contemplations for festivals. She is also a member of the Stream of Life Research Studio\, where her focus is phenomenology and is creative consultant for the multimedia Parsifal Project.  \nFiona has been involved with Anthroposophy for over 40 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience about the core principles and practice of Steiner’s work to her classes. Even in the case of the very youngest children we can begin to do this. For example: we draw some figure on the blackboard and indicate the beginning of a symmetrical line. Then we try to make the child realise that the figure is not complete; they must find out how to complete it. In this way\, we awaken an inner\, active urge in the child to complete something as yet unfinished. This helps them to express an absolutely right conception of something that is a reality. The teacher\, of course\, must have inventive talent but that is always a very good thing. Above all else the teacher must have mobile inventive thought.” \n\nIn A Modern Art of Education by Rudolf Steiner  \n

SUMMARY:Complementaries and Counter Images: Working with Steiner's How to Know Higher Worlds through Art
DESCRIPTION:A masterclass studio\nwith Fiona Campbell\n\n  \n\n  \nImaginative exercises based on meditative exercises given by Steiner in How to Know Higher Worlds using colour\, archetypal processes\, observation and contemplation \nThis 7-session course provides an artistic entry into his preparatory exercises of inner and outer observation\, contemplation and moral development. It aims to nourishes creativity and feeds the soul life.  \nThrough exploration of the complementaries and counter-colours\, we can strengthen both our imaginative faculties and our life forces.  \nYou don’t have to be a trained artist\, or even very experienced\, to enjoy this course\, but you do need self-motivation\, some knowledge of Steiner’s meditative and colour work and some painting technique.  \nBackground information \nWith the increasing\, encroaching advent of AI-generated images filling our screens\, through film\, tv and internet\, the essential creativity that lives in the soul of every human being is under threat. AI-generated art is not creative. It does not arise out of human creativity but out of machines. In the face of this attack on our human-ness\, we need to bring a counter-impulse by strengthening our capacity to create inner images. \nBy working artistically and contemplatively with colour and the forming forces\, we can nurture the emergent qualities of our humanity\, such as our uniquely human capacities to create and to think and to think creatively\, We can counter this dehumanising force\,  \nWe need to  enliven our inner images to counter the life-destroying images of AI-generated art. \nWho are the masterclasses for? \n\nFor artists\, art therapists and art students looking to find a path of soul/spiritual development through the arts.\nFor anyone seeking a non-intellectual pathway into Steiner’s meditative path.\nFor anyone interested in gaining an appreciation of art as a revelation of spiritual realities through painting.\n\nTo get the most out of this course\, it is anticipated participants will work on their own between the fortnightly sessions.  \nRequired: familiarity with the anthroposophic approach to art and painting skills. Watercolour wet-on-dry skills is preferred but other techniques\, such as wet-on-wet or chalk pastels are acceptable but technical advice is not directed towards these media.   \nPlease note: this is not a step-by-step instructional class so not suitable for beginners in painting unless you are adventurous and self-motivated! \nWhat dates are the classes? \n2-4pm AEDT Friday afternoons \n10 February-19 May \nThe workshops are recorded but live participation is preferred\, unless your time zone makes this impossible.  \nHow much does it cost? \nOnline series:  $260 for 7×2 hr masterclasses\, including video recording. \nHow do I register? \nRegistrations closed. SUMMARY:The IAO Motif and the Foundation Stone Meditation
DESCRIPTION:The IAO:  the Cosmic Image of the Human Being\nand the Foundation Stone Meditation\nThe final webinar of 3 practice-based workshops exploring key challenges of 5th epoch\, 6th epoch \nand our cosmic future as represented in the ceiling motifs of the first Goetheanum \n  \nPresenter: Fiona Campbell  \nThis is the 3rd and final webinar in the The Great Luciferic/Ahrimanic face-off exploring the ceiling motifs of the first Goetheanum\, as a transformative picture of the spiritual history of humanity. They raise questions about their relevance to today and how they could guide our future development. Each motif embodies a soul stage of human development as we traverse our starry and earthly path as individuals and as humanity as a whole. \nTell me more \nThe tragedy of dualism in our souls\, and how it manifests has been the leitmotif of this series. In this final workshop\, we contemplate how the path from the IOA as cosmic word resounding from the beginning of time to the IAO\, the cosmic image of the human being\, is a picture and a guide as to how to grapple with our innately dualistic natures. \nIn this presentation\, we explore these theme through discussion\, contemplation and a little sketching of the motif.  \nWho are the webinars for? \nFor anyone interested in Steiner’s approach to the spiritual evolution of humanity. \nBut you don’t have to have attended previous webinars to enjoy the presentation and discussion.  \nWhen is it on? \nSaturday afternoon 4.00-5.30pm AEDT\nWebinar workshops:  26 November \nEach session will be recorded and a video of the event will be available post-webinar.\nA list of suggested drawing materials and background readings is also included in the cost.  \nHow much does it cost?  \nOnline series:  $35  | Concessions available on request – please contact Fiona.\nVideo recording included in the cost \nWhere do I book?  \nBook here! \nAfter booking\, I will send you a confirmation email containing the zoom link to join the meeting.  \nThen download the payment details and materials list.  \nFor more information \nPlease contact Fiona Campbell  \n  \nBackground reading \nThe Foundation Stone Meditation GA 260 \nBackground notes \nAbout the first Goetheanum \n2022 marks the centenary of the burning of the first Goetheanum on New Year’s Eve in 1922/23. As part of the 100th anniversary of the fire\, artists and members of the Anthroposophical Society around the world have been working with the forms and motifs of the 1st Goetheanum. These three webinars are part of this world-wide activity. \nFor the ceiling of the first Goetheanum\, Steiner gave a series of ‘epoch’ motifs to the artists – 12 sketches for the large cupola of the 1st Goetheanum and 7 Sketches for the small cupola. These motifs map the spiritual history of humanity and were intended to support a training in karmic vision through Art. \n. \nPhoto credits: from The Language of Color in the First Goetheanum by Hilde Raske  \n  \n\n‘In the beginning was the Word’ \n“Let us make human beings in our image\, to be like us’

SUMMARY:Facing Our Shadow Self in the 6th Epoch
DESCRIPTION: \n| The Slavic Motif and Our Shadow Self | \nThe 2nd of 3 practice-based webinars exploring the tragedy of dualism \nin the  5th epoch\, 6th epoch and our cosmic future\nas represented in the ceiling motifs of the first Goetheanum \n  \n‘I must not ever leave you. \nYou will in future often find me at your side; \nI shall not go from you until you find \nthe power of that which you are to become.’ \n(The Soul’s Probation\, Scene 5) \n  \n  \nPresenter: Fiona Campbell  \nOur shadow self is usually seen as being our disowned self\, those aspects of our selves we don’t or won’t accept. This shadow is also a development of our innate dualistic nature. So\, how can we grapple with this? In the motifs that filled the ceiling of the first Goetheanum\, we find some answers. \nThis is the 2nd webinar in the The Great Luciferic/Ahrimanic face-off . But you don’t have to have attended previous webinars to enjoy the presentation and discussion.  \n  \nTell me more … \nWe use the motif (pictured above) representing the 6th epoch\, still far in our future\, to understand the nature of our double or shadow as a picture of dualism in our souls. \n\nWhat really is this shadow? \nHow will we experience it? \nDo all beings have a shadow\, even angels? \nAnd how does this affect our future evolution and spiritual development? \n\nWe explore these questions through study\, discussion\, contemplation and a little sketching of the motif.  \n\n  \nWho are the webinars for? \nFor anyone interested in Steiner’s approach to the spiritual evolution of humanity. \nYou do not need to have attended any previous webinars in this series nor do you need drawing skills to enjoy these workshops: the focus is on the experiencing the content through doing\, not learning drawing techniques.  \nWhen are they on? \nSaturday afternoon 4.00-5.30pm AEST\nWebinar workshops: 22 October | 26 November \nEach session will be recorded and a video of the event will be available post-webinar.\nA list of suggested drawing materials and background readings is also included in the cost.  \nHow much does it cost?  \nOnline series:  | $60 for 2 webinars | $35 per webinar | Concessions available on request – please contact Fiona.\nVideo recording included in the cost \nWhere do I book?  \nBook here! \nAfter booking\, I will send you a confirmation email containing the zoom link to join the meeting.  \nThen download the payment details\, materials list and suggested readings. \nFor more information \nPlease contact Fiona Campbell  \n\n  \nBackground notes \nWhat exactly is dualism?   \nThe term ‘dualism’ has various characterisations in different cultures and time periods. But in general\, it means there are two fundamental kinds or categories of things or principles. In theology\, for example\, a dualistic principle is Good and Evil or God and the Devil as independent yet equal forces in the world. Light and Darkness is another example of dualism common to most cultures. \nAccording to Rudolf Steiner\, dualism in our human evolution is expressed through two opposing yet interdependent entities called Lucifer and Ahriman. Both these names can be found in the Bible and in Zoroastrianism as mighty beings\, like fallen angels. But today they are experienced in our soul life as polar-opposite forces that we unconsciously swing between\, like a pendulum. The first webinar in this series\, The Great Luciferic/Ahrimanic Face-off\,  explored their influence in our daily lives in some depth. A video of this webinar is available on request.  \nThis webinar considers how this split might evolve into a separate shadow self.  \nAbout the first Goetheanum \n2022 marks the centenary of the burning of the first Goetheanum on New Year’s Eve in 1922/23. As part of the 100th anniversary of the fire\, artists and members of the Anthroposophical Society around the world have been working with the forms and motifs of the 1st Goetheanum. SUMMARY:Working with Steiner's Seven School Sketches - further training for the artist
DESCRIPTION: \nA masterclass studio with artist Fiona Campbell\nThe Seven School (or Friedwart) Sketches motifs were given to the teachers as part of Rudolf Steiner’s new impulse for understanding both Art and Nature\, to help students explore objective spiritual laws\, where form arises out of colour\, not the reverse. The series moves from nature moods through the four elements to culminate in a Madonna and Child motif.  \n  \nWhat are the Training Sketches? \nTheses sketches are part of a comprehensive portfolio known as the Training Sketches for the Artists. The Nine Training Sketches (Nature Moods) and the Goetheanum epochs motifs form a substantial part of this portfolio. \nBut these sketches are not images of external natural events; they refer to acts that are effective in nature and human\, says Christiane Haid\, head of the Visual Arts Section and the Section for the Literary Arts and Humanities at the Goetheanum. She believes dealing with the creative forces can become the starting point for facing tasks in healing the world.  \nYou are invited to join artist and researcher Fiona Campbell for an online masterclass (seven sessions) as she works with these motifs as culmination of a year-long project to bring Steiner’s sketches and motifs to celebrate the centenary of Steiner’s gift to visual artists of the comprehensive portfolio known as the Training Sketches for the Artists. \nYou don’t have to be a professional artist\, or even very experienced\, to enjoy this course.  \nA training for the configuration of the soul \nThey are called training sketches\, but sometimes people wonder what it is they are training. They are not guides to technique\, nor are they supposed to be copied literally. They are not answers to what artworks of sunrises and trees and people should look like. Rather\, they are a training for the soul. What does this mean? \nThrough working with each sketch\, the painted is lead towards an inward experience of the motif. This opens up the way to true moral and spiritual experiences. By learning to unite herself with the inner essence of these motifs\, the artist can reveal through her work traces of her soul experience of the cosmos. \nHistorical background \nIn June 2022 it will have been one hundred years since the painter and sculptor Henny Geck asked Rudolf Steiner for a course that would bring about a renewal of the art of paining. Steiner gave a series of motifs to the artists in the form of rough sketches\, as a foundation for the renewal of the art of painting. the foundational program for painters seeking to work out of Anthroposophy. This program is comparable to the indications he gave to the eurythmists and has been practiced in different forms in anthroposophic art trainings since Steiner first gave the Nine Training Sketches to artist Henni Geck 100 years ago. \nThese masterclasses are part of a worldwide movement this year to celebrate Steiner’s  artistic impulse\, including the Goetheanum motifs\, on the centenary of the burning down of the First Goetheanum. They are also offering lectures and courses to help realise Rudolf Steiner’s vision of a new impulse in the arts and make these motifs visible to the wider public.  \nWho are the masterclasses for? \nFor artists\, Steiner teachers\, art therapists and art students looking to find a path in soul/spiritual development through the arts; and for anyone interested in understanding more about Rudolf Steiner’s impulse in Art. \nTo get the most out of this course\, it is anticipated that participants work alongside Fiona in-class and on their own between sessions.  \nRequired \n\nfamiliarity with Steiner’s or Goethe’s colour theories\nbasic watercolour wet-on-dry skills (you can use wet-on-wet or any other painting media\, such as oils or acrylics\, if you prefer but technical advice is not directed towards these media) \n\nThis is not a step-by-step instructional class so not suitable for beginners. \nWhat dates are the classes? \n2-4pm AEDT Friday afternoons \n2/16/30 September\, 14/28 October\, 11/25 November. \nSession 1: Sunrise\nSession 2:  Sunset\nSession 3:  Trees in Sunny Air\nSession 4:  Trees in Storm\nSession 5:  Sunlit Tree by a Waterfall\nSession 6:  Head Study\nSession 7: Madonna and Child \nHow much does it cost? \nOnline series: $250 for 7×2 hr masterclasses or $42 for individual sessions. \nWhere do I register? \nRegister here! \nPlease register online.
