Let’s talk about power

Utilising a threefold perspective on power, addressing conflict and collaboration in building community

7pm Wednesday 6 June 2018

Kurrajong Room, upper Campus, Orana Rudolf Steiner School Unwin Street, Weston

On the heels of the national Royal Commission into institutional abuse and the global ‘#me- too’ movement, the ‘P’ word is out of the closet. Over many decades Julia has developed her experience and working knowledge in assisting individuals and organisations bring a human rights perspective into everyday life and work situations, particularly in human service providers, care and education. The basis of her work stems from her belief in every person’s capacity to awaken innate powers and use them to bring out their deepest inspirations in the world. These innate powers make it easier to stay centred in difficulties, know oneself and relate well with others even in volatile and uncertain situations. Innate powers can help to bring flow into a stuck situation and weather the ups and downs with buoyancy and optimism. These capabilities are as relevant for leaders, community members and co- workers as for students and for individuals reliant on support.

Julia brings depth and insight into a wide range of situations through her lived experience and study. Julia spent her early childhood at Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner School. She has worked in anthroposophically based organisations – adult education institutes, schools, social enterprises and communities around the world. Her special interest is in the power of people with mixed abilities and different states of mind to educate us in how to create communities that allow for difference, purpose, and feeling at home. She works worldwide in Africa, Europe, Scandinavia and North America. Julia is a member of the global Deep Democracy Institute, a training organisation in facilitation, conflict awareness and leadership, working in conflict regions around the world.

Julia has a home in Canberra and is a member of the Anthroposophical Society in Australia.
